An impact attenuation system comprises an aluminum honeycomb sheet having a top surface and a bottom surface. The aluminum honeycomb sheet defines a plurality of approximately hexagonally shaped cells. The bottom surface defines a single sheet of contiguous cells and the top surface defines two or more islands of contiguous cells separated by one or more slits. At least a portion of one or both of the top surface and bottom surface may be covered by a polymer skin. The polymer skin may comprise carbon fibers and/or fiberglass.

Helmet impact attenuation article

A helmet mounted display (HMD) system comprising (i) a display device adapted to be positioned between an eye of a person wearing the helmet and a vision-related device; and (ii) a step-in visor which is positioned between the eye of the user and the display device. The vision-related device is removably attached to an accessory joint so that it can be interchanged between an outer visor for use during the day and night vision goggles for use during the night.

A visor assembly for an aviation helmet includes a lens, lens/strap anti-tear interface assemblies, retainer plates, and attachment strap assemblies. A friction strip mounted on the brim of the helmet operates to increase the friction between the visor lens and the helmet. The combined function of the friction strip and the configuration of the strap assemblies operate to maintain the visor in a deployed (as-worn) positioned in front of the wearer's face, even during high speed wind blasts of up to 600 KEAS (Knots Equivalent Air Speed).

A helmet mounted display (HMD) system comprising a display pod having a light wave optical element. The display pod is designed to be attached to a base plate located above the brow of a helmet using opposing hook and loop-style fastener pads or alternatively, a pair of locking disks. The mounting position of the display pod is adjustable within three degrees of freedom, including lateral positioning along a plane that is co-planar to a mounting surface for the display pod, as well as rotation about an axis that is perpendicular to the mounting surface. The HMD system is adapted to compensate for variations in mounting position using a bore sighting adjustment.

Apparatus and method for mounting and calibrating a helmet-mounted display

A dual visor operating mechanism in which respective locks disposed between inner and outer visor arm hubs and respective right and left arbors normally prevent movement of the visors in response to force applied directly thereto and in which respective inner and outer visor actuators sequentially release their associated brakes and then move the visors therewith. Brakes prevent movement of the visors after release of the associated lock and before the corresponding visor moves with the actuator.

Dual visor operating mechanism

A dual visor and helmet assembly in which inner and outer visors mounted on arbors secured to opposite sides of the helmet for movement between operative and inoperative positions are clamped respectively to one and to the other of the arbors by pre-loaded C-rings coupled to the visors. Respective manually actuatable operating rings on the visors may be actuated to release the clamping forces of the C-rings and to move the visors between their operative and inoperative positions.
