An optical fiber drop cable including a cable jacket having an outer surface defining the outermost surface of the optical fiber drop cable. The optical fiber drop cable also includes a subunit, a first strength element, and a second strength element. The first strength element, the second strength element, and the subunit are embedded in the cable jacket, and the first strength element, the second strength element, and the subunit are arranged substantially parallel to each other on a first plane. The subunit includes a buffer tube having an inner surface and an outer surface, at least one optical fiber, and a plurality of strengthening yarns. The plurality of strengthening yarns are disposed between the inner surface of the buffer tube and the at least one optical fiber, and the outer surface of the buffer tube is at least partially in contact with the cable jacket.

Jetting optimized outdoor and indoor multi-function drop cable

An optical fiber cable that includes subunits is provided. The cable has an outer jacket having a thickness of at least 2.0 millimeters and that is made from a fire retardant polymer material having a PHRR value of 222 kw/mwhen tested in a cone calorimeter measured according to ASTM E1354 with a heat flux of 50 kW/m. The cable meets the requirement of UL 1666 burn test for riser cables and the requirements of EN 50399 burn test for CPR class Ccables.

Flexible indoor/outdoor high-fiber-count cable

An optical fiber cable includes a central tube having a first inner and a first outer surface. The first inner surface defines a bore along a longitudinal axis of the cable. Optical fibers are disposed within the bore of the central tube. A cable jacket is disposed around the central tube. The cable jacket has a second inner and a second outer surface defining a first thickness. A skin layer is disposed around the cable jacket. The skin layer has a third inner and a third outer surface defining a second thickness that is 100 &#x3bc;m or less. The cable jacket material is different from the skin layer material, and the third outer surface defines the outermost surface of the optical fiber cable. Access sections made of the second material extend from the skin layer into the first thickness of the cable jacket.

A sensing cable for protection against rodent damage includes an optical component comprising at least one optical fiber, a plurality of armor components embedded in the jacket, and a strength member embedded in the cable jacket, wherein when viewed in cross-section, each component of the plurality of armor components and the strength member surround the optical component with a gap formed between each component of the plurality of armor components and the optical transmission component and the strength member.

Fiber optic cable for distributed sensing with rodent resistant components from hardened materials

A fiber optic cable includes an optical fiber, strength components disposed on opposite sides of the optical fiber, and a polymeric cable jacket. The optical fiber includes a glass core, a glass cladding, and a polymer coating. The cable jacket surrounds the optical fiber and the strength components. Further, the cable jacket is tightly drawn onto the optical fiber, where excess fiber length of the optical fiber is such that positive strain is present in the optical fiber at room temperature (25&#xb0; C.).

Cables are constructed a jacket having an inner section within the cable jacket that facilitates access to the cable core, and which can be removed at the end of the cable during connectorization. The inner section is removed at the end of the cable to create a cavity in which fiber(s) in the cable core can buckle during connectorization to reduce strain on the fibers.

Cables with extruded access features and methods of making thereof

A drop cable includes a jacket, first and second support members, and at least one optical fiber. The jacket has a oval-shaped cavity defined therein, where the minor dimension of the cavity is as small as about 0.25 mm and wherein the major dimension of the cavity is in a range of 0.25 mm to 10 mm. The first and second support members are arranged on opposing sides of the cavity and run generally longitudinally. The optical fiber is within the cavity and has a length greater than a length of the drop cable. Further, the optical fiber is in a substantially serpentine configuration in the cavity, where the serpentine configuration is substantially along a plane defined by a major axis of the oval-shape of the cavity.
