A vacuum storage system () for storing an article, comprises a sealable outer chamber () and a sealable inner chamber (). The sealable outer chamber () has an evacuation valve () for connection to a suction device () for evacuation of said outer chamber (). The sealable inner chamber () is adapted to receive said article and has a one-way valve () in communication with the outer chamber (). The one-way valve () is adapted to open upon the application of suction to the outer chamber (), thereby to enable evacuation of said inner chamber (), but to close upon discontinuation of said suction.

Conditioning medical equipment

A method for conditioning a flexible medical endoscope () having internal channels (), so as to maintain disinfection of said endoscope () following processing to a state of high level disinfection, comprises the steps of:

A method is provided for maintaining the disinfection of medical equipment, in particular medical endoscopes (), following processing. The method comprises placing the disinfected equipment () in a sealed chamber (), and subsequently reducing the pressure within the sealed chamber () to cause evaporation of residual moisture. Gas scavenger sachets () are also provided within the sealed chamber () to remove atmospheric oxygen, thus causing a further reduction in the chamber pressure. The method may optionally include a further step of charging the sealed chamber () with a disinfectant gas or vapor. The processed medical equipment () is then maintained at the desired level of disinfection within the controlled biostatic environment in the sealed chamber ().

Maintaining disinfection of medical equipment

A kit for the storage and transportation of medical equipment () following processing or use thereof contains, as its principal component, a tray () defined by a base () and surrounding walls (). The tray () has at least one fold line () formed in the base and/or walls (), thereby to facilitate compaction of said tray () for disposal. Optional further components of the kit include: a tray line (); a protective cover () adapted to be detachably secured to the tray (); a lid () adapted to engage with the walls () of the tray (); and an oxygen-impermeable container () adapted to receive said tray () therewithin.

A device for in-hospital transportation of flexible medical endoscopes comprises: a re-usable tray having an inner compartment defined by a generally planar base, surrounding walls upstanding therefrom, and peripheral lip-portion(s) provided at least partially around said surrounding walls and extending outwardly therefrom; a single-use, disposable tray-liner having margins to embrace and to detachably-engage at least a major part of said peripheral lip-portion(s) thereof; an open-faced pouch provided centrally of said margins, such that in use said pouch is able to conform itself substantially to the inner compartment of the re-usable tray; and a pouch-closing protective cover which in use is capable of being extended from one edge across an open-face of the pouch supported in the inner compartment and detachably secured so as safely to enclose an endoscope when it is within the pouch within the inner compartment.

An optical assembly 7, 8 providing an optical relay of a borescope 1 has a plurality of lenses 7 spaced apart by tubular spacers 8 through which the optical path extends. The spacers 8 include formations 9, 10 and 11 for connecting adjacent spacers and for housing the lenses 7 such that the spacers 8 and the lenses form a self supporting assembly. The optical assembly 7, 8 locates in a window tube 19 located within a tubular shaft 2 with a fibre optic bundle 16 occupying a duct 17 formed between the window tube and the shaft. The borescope 1 is convenient to assemble with minimum contamination and maximizes the optical path cross sectional area available.
