Disclosed is a process for the recovery of a phytolipid composition from a vegetable oil by-product. The phytolipid composition produced comprises squalene, phytosterols, mixed tocopherols and tocotrieneols, and vegetable wax and is useful as an emollient. The phytochemical composition may be applied directly to the skin to provide emolliency. Alternatively, the phytolipid composition may be formulated in various aqueous or anhydrous cosmetic compositions such as creams, lotions, gels, ointments, lip balms, sticks, or pencils for treatment of the skin and lips. The phytolipid composition also may be incorporated into foods, beverages, and nutraceuticals to provide health benefits.

Process for the recovery of a phytolipid composition

The invention relates to stabilized amido acid compositions. More particularly, the invention relates to compositions of amido acids, such as 6-nonanoylamidohexanoic acid, stabilized with antioxidants. The stabilized amido acid compositions are useful in the manufacture of bleach activators such as sodium nonanamidohexanoyloxybenzenesulfonate. Bleach activators made from the stabilized amido acids of the invention are capable of possessing improved coloration.

Stabilization of amido acids with antioxidants

The invention relates to a process for purifying and decolorizing a phenyl ester salt. The process combines a phenyl ester salt with a solvent to form a mixture and then stirs the mixture to form a slurry. The phenyl ester salt is substantially insoluble in this solvent. The process then collects the phenyl ester salt from the slurry. The collected phenyl ester salt may then be optionally dried or recrystallized. The collected phenyl ester salt is dissolved in a solvent to form a solution. The solution is decolorized and then spray dried to form a powder of the phenyl ester salt. As a result of the process the phenyl ester salt powder has a higher purity and an improved color as compared to the starting phenyl ester salt.

Purification of phenyl ester salts

According to the invention, waste materials containing amido-carboxylic acid esters, which are generated during the preparation of phenyl ester salts, can be converted into amido-carboxylic acids. The recovered amido-carboxylic acid is then useful in the preparation of additional phenyl ester salt by the original preparation process or other processes known in the art. The process of the invention combines a waste material containing amido-carboxylic acid esters with an aqueous solution of a strong acid having a pH less than about 1 to form a mixture. The process heats the mixture to a temperature of at least 90&deg; C. and maintains the mixture at that temperature for a time sufficient to hydrolyze the amido-carboxylic acid esters to amido-carboxylic acids. Sufficient base is the added to adjust the pH of the mixture to greater than about 2. The mixture is then maintained at a temperature of at least 80&deg; C. for a time sufficient to allow phase separation of the aqueous and organic phases within the mixture. The organic phase and the aqueous phase are then separated and the amido-carboxylic acids recovered from the organic phase.

Process for recycling amido-carboxylic acid esters into amino-carboxylic acids

The present invention relates to a one-step process for preparing amido-carboxylic acid esters having the amide nitrogen positioned between two carbonyl carbons by reacting a carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid ester with a monohydric alcohol and either a lactam, amino-carboxylic acid or a polymeric amino-carboxylic acid. In this process, amidation, esterification, alcoholysis, and hydrolysis reactions occur simultaneously.

Process for preparing amido-carboxylic acid esters having internal amide

This invention relates to a process for preparing amido ester compounds. The process involves (I) forming a mixture in a reactor of a phenol derivative and an amido-carboxylic acid at a temperature which ensures at least partial solubility of the phenol derivative and the amido-carboxylic acid, and (II) adding a carboxylic anhydride incrementally to the mixture formed in Step (I) while distilling a by-product carboxylic acid from the reactor. The amido esters are useful as bleach activators.

This invention relates to a process for recycling waste material selected from amino-carboxylic acid oligomers or polymers and amido-carboxylic acid oligomers or polymers into amido-carboxylic acids. A mixture containing water, an oligomeric or polymeric waste material, and a carboxylic acid is heated. The mixture is cooled to obtain a two phase system containing an aqueous phase and an organic phase which are separated. Carboxylic acids, unreacted starting materials, and the monomeric amido-carboxylic acid product are distilled from the organic phase. This invention relates to a 5 step process for preparing a purified alkali metal salt of 4-sulfophenyl-[(1-oxyalkanoyl)amino]alkanoate in one reaction vessel without isolation of intermediates. The steps are as follows: A) reacting an alkali metal salt of 4-hydroxybenzenesulfonic acid with a C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 carboxylic anhydride in a solvent to form an alkali metal salt of 4-acyloxybenzenesulfonic acid and a C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 carboxylic acid. B) adding an [(1-oxyalkanoyl)amino]alkanoic acid and a transesterification catalyst to the reaction product of step A) and heating at a temperature and pressure sufficient to maintain reflux of the solvent and to remove the C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 carboxylic acid from the reaction vessel to form a reaction mixture containing an alkali metal salt of 4-sulfophenyl-[(1-oxyalkanoyl)amino]alkanoate. C) removing the solvent from the reaction mixture formed in step B). D) mixing the alkali metal salt of 4-sulfophenyl-[(1-oxyalkanoyl)amino]alkanoate product of step C) with acetic acid. E) and finally separating the product from the acetic acid. The purified alkali metal salt of 4-sulfophenyl-[(1-oxyalkanoyl)amino]alkanoate product is useful as a bleach activator in detergents.

The process involves three steps. The first step involves heating at a temperature of 150.degree. C.-300.degree. C. for 2 to 10 hours, a mixture containing water, a nitrogen containing compound selected from the group consisting of a lactam and an amino acid, and a carboxylic acid or ester. This invention relates to a four step process for purifying amido-carboxylic acids by liquid/liquid extraction from a reaction mixture containing an amido-carboxylic acid. The first step involves distilling impurities from a reaction mixture containing an amido-carboxylic acid to form a distillate residue. The second step involves mixing the distillate residue with a nonpolar hydrocarbon solvent wherein the mixture is maintained above the freezing point of the distillate residue.
