A foam control agent comprises (A) an organopolysiloxane material having at least one silicon-bonded substituent of the formula X&mdash;Ph, wherein X denotes a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group and Ph denotes an optionally substituted aromatic group, (B) an organosilicon resin and (C) a hydrophobic filler. The organosilicon resin (B) preferably consists of siloxane units of the formula R&prime; SiO wherein R&prime; denotes a hydroxyl, hydrocarbon or hydrocarbonoxy group, particularly trialkylsiloxy units and SiO4/2 units, wherein a has a value of from 0.5 to 2.4. The foam control agent may be provided as an emulsion or as a particulate material. It is especially useful as a detergent foam control agent.

Silicone foam control agent

A foam control agent, comprising (A) an organopolysiloxane material having at least one silicon-bonded substituent of the formula X-Ph, wherein X denotes a divalent aliphatic organic group bonded to silicon through a carbon atom and Ph denotes an optionally substituted aromatic group, (B) a water-insoluble organic fluid, (C) an organosilicon resin and (D) a hydrophobic filler. The foam control agent may be provided as an emulsion or as a particulate material. It is especially useful as a detergent foam control agent.

The foam control efficiency of a silicone antifoam in liquid or powder detergent formulations is improved by the use as an additive of an olefinically unsaturated alcohol, for example oleyl alcohol.

Foam control agents

A foam control agent comprising 100 parts by weight of a water-insoluble organic liquid, from 0.1 to 20 parts by weight of a first hydrophobic filler with a size of no more than 20 .mu.m, preferably silica, and from 0.1 to 20 parts by weight of a second hydrophobic filler having a size of at least 30 .mu.m, preferably an organopolysiloxane resin, said fillers being insoluble in the organic liquid. The foam control agent is particularly useful as an antifoam in detergent compositions, paper pulp manufacture, textile dyeing or cutting oils.

Foam control agent

A foam control agent which is free from hydrocarbon oils and comprises (A) an organopolysiloxane with 0 to 60% of units (i) ##EQU1## wherein R denotes a C.sub.8 hydrocarbon group and a is 0-3, and 40 to 100% of units (ii) ##EQU2## wherein R' is --Z.sub.z --R' with R' being an C.sub.9-35 alkyl, Z is a linking group and z is 0 or 1, b 0, 1 or 2, c 1 or 2 and b+c 1, 2 or 3, provided more than 70% by weight of the carbon content of (A) is due to R', (B) a finely divided hydrophobic particulate material and (C) optionally a MQ organosilicon resin. The agents give improved performance and stability e.g. in detergent powders.

Foam in an environment with free surface turbulence is controlled with a foam control agent which comprises (A) 5 to 90 parts by weight of an organopolysiloxane having at least 40% siloxane units with a substituent --Z.sub.z --R' wherein R' is a C.sub.9-35 alkyl group, Z is a linking group with silicon and z is 0 or 1, provided more than 70% by weight of its carbon content is due to the groups --Z.sub.z --R', (B) 0.1 to 30 parts by weight of a finely divided hydrophobic particulate material, (C) 5 to 95 parts by weight of a hydrocarbon oil and (D) 0 to 20 parts by weight of an organosilicon MQ resin.

Method of controlling foam

Surface active silicone compounds which have an improved stability at a pH above 9 or below 4, have the general formula ##STR1## wherein each R independently represents an alkyl or aryl group, each R' represents an alkylene group preferably separating neighbouring silicon atoms by up to 3 carbon atoms, each R' independently denotes R or, only if a is 0, the group R.sub.3 SiR'--, Z represents a hydrophilic sulphur, nitrogen or phosphor containing substituent or a carboxy-functional group or a salt thereof, and a has the value 0, 1 or 2.

Carbosilane surfactants

Aqueous compositions comprising water having dispersed therein (A) a cationic compound which is substantive to water rinse on textile fabrics and (B) a mixture of a high viscosity polydiorganosiloxane and one or more methylsiloxanes having from 2 to 8 silicon atoms in the molecule. The compositions are useful as fabric conditioners in domestic and commercial laundry operations.

Compositions and process for the treatment of textiles

A textile treating composition, useful as a composition for the softening of textiles during the rinse cycle of a laundry operation, comprises a cationic surfactant which is substantive to water rinse on textiles and a polydiorganosiloxane having at least one amido containing substitutent, preferably of the formula ##STR1## where R is an alkylene group. The composition is preferably utilized in the form of an aqueous dispersion. A process for treating textile fabrics is also described. Textile fabrics when treated with this composition exhibit a less greasy feel than prior art textile fabrics and also have an improved rewet time.
