Provided in one example is a method. The method includes generating, using a processor, data of a negative of an image to be printed on a print medium. The method includes determining, using the processor, a moisture profile of a print job, which print job includes the image and the negative, using data of the image and the data of the negative. The method includes generating, using the processor, printing instructions of the print job using at least the determined moisture profile. The method includes printing the print job on the print medium using at least the printing instructions.

In an example implementation, a method of dual and single drop weight printing includes operating a printing system in a hybrid drop weight print mode to enable ejecting black ink from high drop weight nozzles and low drop weight nozzles, and ejecting color ink from high drop weight nozzles but not from low drop weight nozzles.

A first roller has a first roller center line; a second roller has a second roller center line. Fluid-ejection mechanisms eject fluid onto the media as the media is rolled past the rollers, and include first mechanisms and second mechanisms. The first mechanisms include first and second printheads, at least substantially equally between which a first positioning line is defined. The second mechanisms include third and fourth printheads, at least substantially equally between which a second positioning line is defined. The fluid-ejection mechanisms are disposed opposite to the roller and are positioned such that the first and second positioning lines are located between the first and second roller center lines, the first and the third printheads are not completely located between the first and the second roller center lines, and the second and the fourth printheads are completely located between the first and the second roller center lines.

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method of processing document image data for printing. The method comprises rasterizing all objects in the document image data into a bitmap format including designating black portions of the objects as composite black pixels. Color objects are identified in the document image data that contain color or are adjacent to color. All composite black pixel designations in the identified color objects are maintained as composite black pixel designations without substitution to true black pixel designations. Print data is generated in which the composite black pixel designations will be half-tone printed on a print medium as a portion of composite black ink and a portion of true black ink.

A method for predicting the settled appearance of a test patch printed by an imaging system by applying a transfer function to the color of a freshly printed test patch. The transfer function may be formulated to take into account a variety of environmental conditions, such as humidity or temperature, or post-printing processes, such as lamination. The predicted settled test patch color may be exported to an external image processor, or the imaging system processor may internally compare the predicted settled test patch color with the desired test patch color in order to calibrate the color map used by the imaging system.

A method for creating photographic-quality prints and prints produced by these methods are disclosed. The prints generally comprise three layers: a transparent carrier; an image, and a particle-based undercoat. The transparent carrier comprises a substrate for receiving an image. A printer for creating specialty-sized prints includes a printing mechanism, a cutter mechanism and a slicing mechanism. A media web or sheet is fed into the printer and is advanced by a media advancement mechanism in a media advancement direction. The cutter mechanism cuts the media transverse to the media advancement direction. The slicing mechanism slices the media parallel to the media advancement direction. The slicing mechanism includes a cam positioned on a camshaft and a slicer module. The slicer module is positioned adjacent the camshaft and includes a contact spring operatively spaced from the cam and a blade operatively spaced from the media. The media is sliced when an actuation mechanism rotates the camshaft so the cam pushes against the contact spring of the slicer module, which biases the blade against the media.
