The present invention is directed to a lead-free, nontoxic pyrotechnic composition, comprising: 30-80 wt % of bismuth subnitrate; and 10-50 wt % of a fuel, wherein all weight percents are based on the total weight of the composition. The present invention is also directed to a lead-free, nontoxic priming composition, comprising: 20-80 wt % of the above nontoxic pyrotechnic composition; 20-50 wt % of an initiator explosive; and 2-10 wt % of a sensitizer, wherein all weight percents are based on the total weight of the composition.

Lead-free nontoxic explosive mix

A nontoxic primer mix for use in a percussive primer, especially of the Boxer type which principally comprises diazodinitrophenol, iron oxide and boron. The composition may also contain a nitrate ester as a fuel, and tetrazene as a secondary explosive.

Nontoxic priming mix

There is provided a lead-free primer mix having high sensitivity. The primer mix contains an initiating explosive, a sensitizer, a propellant, calcium silicide and an oxidizer. The ignition exhaust products are essentially free of toxic oxides such as lead oxide, barium oxide and antimony oxide.

Lead-free priming mixture for percussion primer

A nontoxic primer mix for use in a percussive primer, especially of the Boxer type which principally comprises diazodinitrophenol and boron. The composition may also contain calcium carbonate or strontium nitrate as an oxidizer, a nitrate ester as a fuel, and tetrazene as a secondary explosive.

The present invention is direct to primer housings to secure a semiconductor bridge device in close proximity to an energetic charge. The primar housings are formed from an electrically conductive alloy and contain a dielectric medium disposed between components to maintain electrical isolation. The housings are characterized by high ductility to resist fracture during assembly or handling. In certain embodiments, one or both lead wires are removed to reduce the potential for lead wire breakage or separation.

Semiconductor bridge (SCB) packaging system

The present invention is direct to primer housings to secure a semiconductor bridge device in close proximity to an energetic charge. The primer housings are formed from an electrically conductive alloy and contain a dielectric medium disposed between components to maintain electrical isolation. The housings are characterized by high ductility to resist fracture during assembly or handling. In certain embodiments, one or both lead wires are removed to reduce the potential for lead wire breakage or separation.

An electric primer using an intrinsic conductive pyrotechnic mixture is improved by the addition of a carbon layer between the inner and outer electrodes and the mixture. The carbon layer provides a parallel resistive current path between the electrodes in addition to the path through the conductive mixture. The addition of a carbon layer also increases the operable temperature range of the primer. The high energy firing threshold of the intrinsically conductive pyrotechnic mixture and the additional dissipative current path through the carbon layer coact to further reduce the sensitivity of the primer to RF radiation and ESD hazards.

Electric primer with reduced RF and ESD hazard

An electric primer has an intrinsically conductive pyrotechnic mixture consisting of a metal powder fuel, an alkaline oxidizer, and a sensitizing fuel. The primer mixture preferably consists of about 27% titanium metal powder, about 68% potassium chlorate, and 5% boron as the sensitizing fuel. Lead thiocyanate may also be added as a further sensitizing fuel. The primer is advantageously adapted for use in airbag inflators in an automobile passive restraint system.

Electric primer with intrinsic conductive mix

A priming method for rimfire cartridges is disclosed in which a propellant solution is disposed adjacent a centrifugally located primer material in a rimfire cartridge. The solvent is then evaporated to leave a propellant film near the primer material in order to provide slower, more uniform ignition to thereby allow use of propellant powders which would otherwise be too fast or too sensitive.

Priming method for rimfire cartridge

This invention relates to priming compositions for ammunitions containing manganese dioxide as oxidizer agent in the primer mix, and to the rimfire cartridge containing dinol, manganese dioxide, tetrazene and glass.
