A method and apparatus are provided for processing documents in a path wherein the documents each have first and second ends. Some of the documents have the first end being the leading end, and others of the documents have the second end being the leading end. The documents are conveyed to a receiver. The documents with the first end leading are conveyed into one end of the receiver. The documents with the second end leading are conveyed into the other end of the receiver from the opposite direction. The documents in the receiver then all have the same end orientation in the receiver. Two documents may initially be fed one on top of the other between a rotating wheel and retard pad. This selectively retards one document against the pad until the other document has been fed further forwardly beyond the leading edge of the one document.

Document processing system

A programmable, operator responsive, audiovisual teaching apparatus includes a rear screen projector for displaying visual information and an audio reproduction unit providing correlated audiovisual presentations in a sequence corresponding to a branched learning format. A microfiche storage element is provided with a plurality of informational units to be projected toward the screen, each unit including a visual portion, an encoded data portion, and an optical sound track portion. The coded data portion is projected onto a plurality of photodetectors mounted adjacent the screen and the optical sound track is projected onto a movable sound track transducer which provides the audio presentation. A plurality of manually operable switches are provided on the apparatus for selective actuation by the operator in an attempt to select a proper response to the audiovisual presentation. The photodetectors are connected to correlating circuitry which is operable in two modes, an auto step mode, in which the informational unit is presented and then automatically moved to present a sequential programmed informational unit, or a responsive mode, in which the informational unit is presented which requires an operator's response. In the second, responsive mode, upon a correct operator response, a subsequent informational unit is presented relating to a new subject, while, an incorrect response initiates a branching series designed to reinforce or further instruct the operator, after which the initial informational unit may be presented again. In one branching format, the apparatus projects the first of a plurality of possible branch informational units. In a second branch mode, the apparatus may select an appropriate single branch informational unit corresponding to the particular incorrect response.

Operator responsive audio-visual teaching apparatus

A film handling apparatus blower system. The system includes a blower having a high-pressure, low-volume section and low-pressure, high-volume section. The high-pressure, low-volume section is a scroll-type centrifugal blower with a circular impeller of cellular material to minimize discernible noise, an axial intake port, and a high-pressure outlet port. The high-pressure outlet port is coupled to a duct which directs the output high-pressure air flow into a film cassette. The low-pressure, high volume section is also a scroll-type centrifugal blower having a bladed fan wheel, an axial intake port, and three low-pressure outlet ports. One low-pressure outlet port is coupled to a duct which directs output air flow to a location for flow adjacent the rearward portion of a projection lamp. A second low-pressure outlet port is coupled to a duct which directs output air flow to a location for flow adjacent the frontal portion of the projection lamp. A third low-pressure outlet port is coupled to a duct which directs output air flow across the AC drive motor of the film handling apparatus.

Film handling apparatus blower system

A control system for a cinematographic film cassette processor/projector unit. The control system includes a function programmer comprising an operating cycle selector responsive to a processed/unprocessed indicator on the cassette to program the control system for either a processed-film operating cycle or an unprocessed-film operating cycle and a logic unit for programming the sequence and execution of the plural operational modes of the apparatus during an operating cycle. The control system further includes a reel drive control circuit having plural speed and direction drive control modes programmed by the function programmer, a mode change actuator circiut responsive to cessation of film movement to actuate a change in the operational mode of the processor/projector by changing the logic state of the logic disc assembly, and a manually-actuatable replay circuit.
