Uranium is recovered from phosphate ore in a process comprising making phosphoric acid, partially reacting same with NH.sub.3, removing aluminum with dilute sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate and extracting the uranium with a concentrated solution of said carbonates.

A process for making zeolite S by reacting an aqueous solution of Na.sub.2 CO.sub.3 and NaHCO.sub.3 with glass, e.g., Pyrex glass. The silica and alumina are furnished by slow dissolution of the glass.

Hydrocarbon oils such as residual petroleum oils are efficiently deasphalted and demetallized with recovery of high quality asphalt by contact with a liquid mixture of at least two of the components selected from hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide and propane. The recovered deasphalted oil, which is characterized by reduced metal and sulfur content, may be used as charge stock to the fluid catalytic cracking process or to the hydrocracking process.

Process for deasphalting hydrocarbon oils

The invention provides a novel process for the removal of fluorine during the production of fertilizer by precipitating the ion during the ammoniation step and recovering same by pyrolysis. To recover the fluorine the fertilizer is first separated out as a filtrate and the precipitate is heated to evolve ammonium fluoride, which heating is done in an ammonia atmosphere.

The invention is an improvement in the process of benificiating phosphate ores, the process including at least one acid flotation and at least one amine flotation. The improvement is a reduction in the formation of slimes, obtained by drying the phosphate ore prior to classification and flotation or by transporting it to the flotation plant out of contact with water.

This invention provides an improved process for solvent-refining coal which involves heating an admixture of coal and a thermally stable organic solvent to solubilize substantially the coal to form a slurry of liquefaction phase and a residual solids phase, and thereafter passing the slurry through a filter bed of crushed raw coal to separate the liquefaction phase from the solids phase.
