An interconnect device for connecting components of high frequency communication systems, including RF and phased array applications. The device is capable of carrying RF and microwave signals between pairs of components and includes an outer conducting tube and an insulated conducting wire disposed within the tube. The outside diameter of the insulated wire is less than the inside diameter of the tube allowing movement of the wire relative to the tube. As a result of this movement, the longitudinal axis of the wire may vary from the longitudinal axis of the tube resulting in a &ldquo;sloppy coax&rdquo; interconnect. The ability of the wire to move within the tube facilitates installation and replacement of the wire when required.

Sloppy coax interconnect for low cost RF and phased array applications

Techniques are described for treatment of ash and paper to eliminate them from the environment and to produce ceramic particles useful as light-weight aggregate (e.g., for use in concrete products). The ash may be that resulting from incineration of rubbish or sewage sludge or it may be fly ash from power plants. The ash and waste paper are mixed with clay and water, shaped into desired shapes and sizes, after which the particles are fired to produce ceramic particles which are lighter in weight than natural aggregates.

Method for making light weight ceramic particles

Processes and techniques are described for treating waste water (domestic and industrial) to remove organic matter and heavy metals. Clay and flocculating agent are added to the waste water to cause separation of a sludge. The sludge is fired at high temperature in particle form to produce ceramic particles. Organic matter is oxidized; heavy metals are bound within the ceramic particles and cannot leach out. The ceramic particles are useful as aggregate (e.g., in concrete) and in landscaping.

Waste treatment

Biological stable articles are described which are especially useful as bed materials for treating waste water. Preferred articles are charred rice hulls which comprise silica and carbon.

Biological filtration process

Unique fired clay pillows are described which are useful for a variety of purposes. They have particular utility in structural applications when they are first rendered impervious, mixed with a hardenable binder, and then cast into a mold or form of desired size and configuration where the binder is hardened, thereby producing a consolidated pillow structure having a high degree of void space. The consolidated pillow structure is fire-resistant, weather-resistant, rot-proof, and exhibits good sound absorption and thermal insulation properties.

Fired clay pillows and structures made therewith

A bicycle handlebar stem is made of two separate parts, a tubular shank and a gooseneck. This eliminates or substantially reduces long drilling operation for the stem and it simplifies the forging of the gooseneck. The gooseneck is shaped for forging thereof in a manner such that the meeting of the forging dies does not occur across the top of the stem, and the forging operation can forge identifying insignia on the stem top and/or form a recess of receiving an identification plate. Destruction of the indicia on the plate in the case of a stolen bicycle is easily detected. In order to inhibit commerce in such stolen bicycles the handlebar stem is mounted in the steering column in a manner that requires a special tool to remove it and to replace it by another.
