A watercraft including a hull; a deck; a battery and an electric motor; a cooling system including: a heat exchanger; a closed cooling path in thermal contact with the heat exchanger and the battery; and an open cooling path in thermal contact with a portion of the closed cooling path. Also a cooling system including: a heat exchanger including: a heat exchanger body, a first channel defined in the heat exchanger body, the first channel being in thermal contact with the outer surface for conducting heat therebetween, and a second channel defined in the heat exchanger body, the second channel being in thermal contact with the first channel, a first cooling path in thermal contact with the battery, a portion of the first cooling path being defined by the first channel; and a second cooling path defined by the second channel.

A watercraft including a hull including a bottom surface, a channel being defined by the bottom surface; a deck disposed above the hull; a battery disposed in a rear portion of the watercraft below the deck; an electric motor disposed in a forward portion of the watercraft, the electric motor being disposed above the bottom surface of the hull and below the deck, the electric motor being electrically connected to the battery; a propulsion shaft operatively connected to the electric motor at a front end of the propulsion shaft, the propulsion shaft extending downward and rearward from the electric motor, the propulsion shafting passing through the bottom surface of the hull and extending into the channel; a propeller connected to a rear end portion of the propulsion shaft; and a rudder pivotally connected to at least one of the hull and the deck.

A boat having a transom and a rear platform extending at least partially across the transom. The rear platform includes a hatch defining at least partially the rear platform, the hatch having a bottom surface, and a hatch pivot for pivoting the hatch about a hatch pivot axis from a first hatch position to a second hatch position. The boat is free of an enclosed engine compartment. The hatch at least partially defines thereunder a space for receiving a marine outboard engine. The space extends rearwardly of the transom and is open at a rear of the boat.

A method for replacing a battery and a watercraft including a hull; a deck; an electric propulsion system including: a battery disposed in a rear portion of the watercraft, and an electric motor electrically connected the battery; an opening defined at least in part by at least one of the hull and the deck, the opening providing access to a space between the hull and the deck, the opening being sized to permit the passage of the battery therethrough; and a rear module selectively connected to at least one of the hull and the deck, the rear module selectively closing the opening, the rear module, the battery, the deck, and the hull being arranged such that the battery is selectively removable through the opening when the rear module is removed from the watercraft.

Method and system for replacing a watercraft battery

A marine outboard engine including an engine unit; a drive unit operatively connected to the engine unit; an engine unit housing for supporting and covering the engine unit, the engine unit housing having a top surface; and one or more bumpers connected to the engine unit housing. The bumper projects above the top surface of the engine unit housing; or rearward of an upper rear end of the engine unit housing; or both above the top surface of the engine unit housing and rearward of an upper rear end of the engine unit housing. When the marine outboard engine is located under a boat hatch is in a closed position and the marine outboard engine is pivoted in at least one portion of a tilt range, the bumper is adapted for abutting a bottom surface of the hatch.

A marine engine assembly for mounting to a watercraft is disclosed. The marine engine assembly has an engine unit, an exhaust system fluidly and a propulsion device. The engine unit includes an engine unit housing, an internal combustion engine and an air intake assembly. The air intake assembly, at least one combustion chamber, and the exhaust system together defining at least in part a gas flow pathway. A sealing valve is provided in the gas flow pathway. The sealing valve has an open position permitting flow of gas therethrough. The sealing valve has a closed position preventing flow of gas therethrough for sealing a portion of the gas flow pathway downstream of the sealing valve from a portion of the gas flow pathway upstream of the sealing valve.

A marine engine assembly for mounting to a watercraft is disclosed. The marine engine assembly has an engine unit, an exhaust system fluidly and a propulsion device. The engine unit includes an engine unit housing, an internal combustion engine and an air intake assembly. The air intake assembly, at least one combustion chamber, and the exhaust system together defining at least in part a gas flow pathway. A sealing valve is provided in the gas flow pathway. The sealing valve has an open position permitting flow of gas therethrough. The sealing valve has a closed position preventing flow of gas therethrough for sealing a portion of the gas flow pathway downstream of the sealing valve from a portion of the gas flow pathway upstream of the sealing valve. An air pump is configured for supplying air to the gas flow pathway downstream of the sealing valve.

A watercraft and a marine engine assembly for mounting to a watercraft are disclosed. The marine engine assembly includes an engine unit including: an engine unit housing being sealed such that water in which the engine unit housing is immersed is impeded from entering the engine unit housing; an engine in the housing; and an air intake assembly in the engine unit housing which forms a conduit between an exterior of the engine unit housing and the engine, the air intake assembly defining an inlet fluidly communicating with exterior air, the engine unit housing defining at least one aperture aligned with the inlet, the air intake assembly defining at least one outlet fluidly connected with the engine intake, the air intake assembly being sealed such that surrounding fluids within the engine unit housing are impeded from entering the air intake assembly; and a propulsion device operatively connected to the engine.

Marine engine assembly

A watercraft and a marine engine assembly for pivotably mounting to a watercraft about a tilt-trim axis are disclosed. The marine engine assembly includes an engine unit including: an engine unit housing; an engine disposed in the housing; and an exhaust conduit disposed in the housing, an exhaust inlet defined by the exhaust conduit being fluidly connected to the engine, the exhaust conduit extending forward and upward from the exhaust inlet and then subsequently extending downward and rearward to an exhaust outlet. The marine engine assembly also has a driveshaft operatively connected to the engine and a propulsion device operatively connected to the driveshaft. A center of mass of the engine is disposed below the tilt-trim axis at least when the driveshaft is vertically oriented.

A boat has a rear platform including a pivotable hatch. A marine outboard engine has a bumper connected to the engine unit housing. When mounted to the boat, the marine outboard engine is located under the hatch and is pivotable from a trim range to a tilt range. When the hatch is in a closed position and the marine outboard engine is in the tilt range, pivoting the marine outboard engine upwardly to a first engine position causes the bumper to abut a bottom surface of the hatch. Pivoting the marine outboard engine upwardly from the first engine position to a second engine position causes the bumper to push up on the bottom surface of the hatch and to slide against the bottom surface of the hatch, thereby pivoting the hatch from the closed position to an open position.

A fuel system for an engine is provided. A fuel injector of the engine has an injector inlet and an injector outlet. The fuel system includes a fuel vapor separator, a fuel supply conduit, an injector conduit, a fuel return conduit, and a vapor return conduit. A first end of each of the fuel supply, injector and vapor return conduits is fluidly connected to the fuel vapor separator. A first end of the fuel return conduit is fluidly connectable to a fuel tank. A second end of the fuel supply conduit is fluidly connectable to the fuel tank. A second end of the injector conduit is fluidly connectable to the injector inlet. A second end of the fuel return conduit is fluidly connectable to the injector outlet. A second end of the vapor return conduit is fluidly connectable to the fuel tank. A marine outboard engine is also provided.

An exhaust system for a marine outboard engine including an engine having an engine exhaust port. The exhaust system includes a first exhaust port, a second exhaust port vertically higher than the first exhaust port, a first passage for fluidly connecting to the engine exhaust port and fluidly connected to the first exhaust port, a second passage fluidly connected between the first passage and the second exhaust port, a catalytic converter defining at least in part the second passage, a valve operable to at least partially close the first passage to respectively reduce and increase flow of exhaust gas to the first exhaust port and the second exhaust port, a valve actuator operatively connected to the valve, and a controller operatively connected to the valve actuator for controlling a position of the valve based at least in part on a speed and a throttle request of the engine.

A marine outboard engine comprises an internal combustion engine, a gearcase defining a gearcase chamber, a plurality of gears disposed in the gearcase chamber, a driveshaft operatively connecting the crankshaft to the plurality of gears, an output shaft disposed at least in part in the gearcase chamber and being operatively connected to the plurality of gears, a rotor connected to the output shaft for propelling the marine outboard engine, a lubricant reservoir for holding lubricant, a first lubricant conduit fluidly connecting the lubricant reservoir to the crankcase chamber for supplying lubricant from the lubricant reservoir to the crankcase chamber, and a second lubricant conduit fluidly connecting the lubricant reservoir to the gearcase chamber for supplying lubricant from the lubricant reservoir to the gearcase chamber.

An internal combustion engine assembly has a crankcase, a cylinder block connected to the crankcase, the cylinder block defining at least one cylinder, at least one piston disposed in the at least one cylinder, a crankshaft disposed at least in part in the crankcase and operatively connected to the at least one piston, and a flywheel operatively connected to and driven by the crankshaft. The crankshaft rotates in a first direction about a crankshaft axis. The flywheel rotates in a second direction opposite the first direction about the flywheel axis. A clutch selectively operatively connects the crankshaft to the flywheel. A marine outboard engine having the internal combustion engine assembly is also disclosed.

A propulsion system has an internal combustion engine including an exhaust manifold and an engine air intake, an exhaust port fluidly connected to the exhaust manifold, a fresh air intake fluidly connected to the engine air intake and a filter assembly including adsorbent material and being configurable between a loading configuration allowing for filtration of at least some components of an exhaust gas of the engine, and a purging configuration allowing for removal therefrom of at least some of the components of the exhaust gas. In the loading configuration, the filter assembly is fluidly connected between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust port. In the purging configuration, the filter assembly is fluidly connected between the fresh air intake and the engine air intake. Above a threshold effective engine speed of the engine, the filter assembly is in the purging configuration. A method for treating exhaust gas is also described.
