An improved process for manufacture of expandable polymer particles is provided. The continuous process disclosed produces expandable polymer pellets in a single step while eliminating many of the dangers inherent in processes of prior art employed for the same. The polymers produced herein are of uniform size, and may be molded into various articles of manufacture using existing equipment and techniques known to those skilled in the art.

Expandable thermoplastic polymer particles and method for making same

Processes for producing mono- and biaxially drawn polyketone films from linear polymers of carbon monoxide, ethylene, and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon having a melting point of at least 214.degree. C., comprising drawing of a linear polymer sheet along one or two axes, respectively, at a draw temperature of from about 4.degree. to 15.degree. C. below the melting point of the terpolymer, and a draw ratio of between 4 to 20. Also disclosed are the products which have and exhibit good properties of strength and stiffness, even at low draw ratios, produced by these processes.

Mono- or biaxially drawn polyketone films

Linear alternating polymers of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon are stabilized against degradation caused by exposure to ultraviolet light by the inclusion therein of a thiobisphenol and certain channel-type carbon blacks.

Stabilized polymers

A high modulus, high strength coextruded polyolefin composite which can be drawn to higher draw ratios than single sheets of the polymers of which it is made is disclosed. It comprises a core layer of a polymer selected from the group consisting of polypropylene, polyethylene and linear low density polyethylene, and cap layers of a polymer selected from the group consisting of polybutylene homopolymers and copolymers with ethylene.

Processes for producing mono- and biaxially drawn polyketone films from linear polymers of carbon monoxide, ethylene, and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon having a melting point of at least 214.degree. Process for producing mono- or biaxially drawn polyketone films

Compositions comprising linear alternating polymers of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon are stabilized against degradation caused by exposure to UV light by the inclusion therein of an aromatic diamine and a certain type of carbon black.

Ethylene-carbon monoxide copolymer stabilization

Novel, linear alternating polymers of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon have a high degree of monomeric unit purity. The polymers, produced with a catalyst composition formed from preformed palladium trifluoroacetate and a bidentate phosphorous ligand, exhibit improved thermal stability and enhanced crystallinity and crystallizability.

Novel polymers

A novel product of the polymerization of butene-1 is highly stereoregular but nevertheless has low crystallinity and has properties of a thermoplastic elastomer. This elastomeric polybutylene is the total product. Its elastomeric qualitites lie between those of plasticized vinyl polymers and conventional vulcanized rubbers. The butene-1 polymers may be compounded with extenders and fillers for use as molded or extruded elastomeric product or may be used without plasticizer addition in place of flexible vinyl polymers, such as highly plasticized poly(vinylchloride) PVC.

Polybutylene

Films of low ether solubles content, satisfactory mechanical properties, and a greatly improved heat seal impact strength can be made from butene-1 polymers which are stereoregular, predominantly isotactic, thermoplastic elastomers (referred to herein as SEPB) and from blends of these polymers with conventional copolymers of butene-1 with small amounts of ethylene (PBE). Because of the low ether solubles content the films are useful for food and medical packaging. Films of low ether solubles content, satisfactory mechanical properties, and excellent heat seal impact strength are produced from SEPB and preferably from blends of SEPB with small amounts of polypropylene and, optionally, high density polyethylene or a crystallization nucleating agent. Mechanical properties of SEPB films are improved by addition of conventional PBE. Conversely, the heat seal impact strength of conventional PBE films is greatly improved and mechanical properties are synergistically improved by addition of minor proportions of SEPB.
