A water based ink composition which can be used effectively in various ink jet type printing arrangements and on a variety of predetermined substrate surfaces. Such ink composition being resistant to smearing and running when contacted by water after application and drying on such substrate surfaces. This water based ink composition comprising a dye material, having a predetermined color, which is present in the ink composition generally in a range of between about 0.1 weight percent and about 10.0 weight percent. Water is present in such ink composition generally in a range of between about 50.0 weight percent and about 80.0 weight percent. There is a substantially water compatible organic solvent compound for dissolving such dye material therein. The organic solvent compound is present in such ink composition generally in a range of between about 10.0 weight percent and about 40.0 weight percent. Such ink composition exhibits a surface tension generally in a range of between about 20 dynes and about 50 dynes and a viscosity in a range of between about 1 centipoise and about 50 centipoise.

Water based ink jet printing ink

An apparatus is provided which enables ink used in a print head disposed in an ink jet printing arrangement to be produced, in situ, from an ink concentrate and a diluting agent. Such apparatus includes a generally hollow fluid-tight housing member. A collapsible ink concentrate container is provided for containing a predetermined volume of ink concentrate therein. The container is disposed in an interior portion of such housing member. A connection is disposed on the housing member and in fluid communication with the interior portion of such housing member for connecting the housing member to a source of fluid pressure. An ink concentrate fluid communication passageway is connected to the ink concentrate container for communicating a predetermined volume of ink concentrate to a mixing apparatus. A fluid communication is established for communicating a diluting agent from the interior portion of such housing member to the mixing apparatus.

Method of and an apparatus for using an ink concentrate in an ink jet

A resin is provided which is the adduct of a bisphenol and a diglycidyl ether of a bisphenol reacted with an anhydride to an Acid No. of 35 to 150. This resin is solubilized with a volatile amine, ammonia, or NH.sub.4 OH in a solvent mixture of water, alkoxyethanols, alcohols, and alkyl ethers of diethylene glycol and combined with an aminoplast to produce a coating composition utilizable to coat metal surfaces that will contact a food or beverage, such as in metal packaging containers.

Storage stable water-dilutable epoxy based coating for metal food

A radiation curable coating composition for various substrates containing an adduct of acrylic acid and an epoxy resin (which may be modified with an anhydride, such as maleic anhydride), and a reactive acrylate monomer vehicle. The coating composition can be pigmented and can also contain additives commonly used in coatings, such as wetting agents and flow control agents. The coating composition does not require the usual hydrocarbon vehicles that give rise to air pollution problems. Surface gloss of a UV cured film obtained from a pigmented coating composition can be increased by using a photosensitizer combination of 2-chlorothioxanthone and a phenyl ketone, such as benzophenone. Adhesion of a cured coating is improved by replacing the tertiary amine co-sensitizer, at least in part, with dimethylaminoethyl acrylate.
