A computer assisted surgical system for guiding bone cutting operations of an arthroplasty surgery is provided. The computer assisted surgical system includes a cutting guide having a guiding surface for mounting to a bone and a computer. The computer is in communication with the cutting guide and configured to generate a bone model of the first bone without the use of pre-operative bone images, determine a position of an implant model having a bone interface surface on the bone model, determine a position of the cutting guide on the first bone based on the determined position of the implant model on the bone model, and position the guiding surface of the cutting guide to one of a plurality of predetermined cut configurations relative to the bone interface surface.

Modular prosthesis components having first and second relief patterns, the first relief pattern being complementary to the second relief pattern such that a component having the first relief pattern may seat fully on and in register with a component having the second relief pattern.

Modular prosthesis

A joint prosthesis may include a tibial tray, a tibial base, a tibial articular member, and a femoral articular member. A coupler may engage the tray, and optionally the base, with an interference fit. An interference fit may be engaged using a mating surface with a constant non-tapering cross-sectional geometry.

A joint prosthesis may include a tibial tray, a tibial base, a tibial articular member, and a femoral articular member. In some embodiments, a coupler engages the tray, and optionally the base, with an interference fit. In some embodiments, the base engages the tray with an interference fit.

The stem member may be so tapered as to be engageable by taper press-fit into the medullary cavity of a bone. The body member may be engageable in the stem member by friction-tight press-fit at a zone of diametrical interference.

Joint prostheses and components thereof

A modular joint prosthesis includes a tibial component that may be rotatable or non-rotatable. The system includes a tibial bearing insert having surface features, either male or female, that are able to be slidably mated to complementary surface features of another component. In one embodiment, the tibial component is non-rotatable and the surface features of the tibial bearing insert are slidably matable to complementary surface features of a tibial plateau. In another embodiment the tibial component is rotatable and the surface features of the tibial bearing insert are slidably matable to complementary surface features of a rotating platform base. The rotating platform base, in turn, is rotably mounted to a tibial plateau. The system may utilize a securing member to prevent translation motion between the tibial bearing insert and the tibial plateau or the tibial bearing insert and the rotatable platform base.

Modular joint prosthesis system

The present invention discloses systems, kits and methods for prosthetic joint replacement. In one embodiment, a modular implantable surgical device including a stem, a neck and a head is disclosed that is suitable for replacement of a hip joint. In another embodiment, a kit is provided that includes at least two stems, necks and heads that can be used by the surgeon to adapt the size and shape of the assembled prosthetic device to conform to an individual patient's anatomy. In a practice according to the methods of the present invention, steps are disclosed for positioning the prosthesis in an individual patient in an anatomically correct position.

Implantable joint prosthesis

A modular joint prosthesis includes a tibial component formed of a tibial bearing insert and a tibial plateau. The tibial bearing insert is a modular component formed of a tibial insert body and a modular element. The tibial insert body and the modular elements are provided in a variety of geometries and sizes to yield various types of tibial insert bodies. The same tibial insert body may be used, for example, to form both rotatable and non-rotatable tibial bearing inserts.

Modular tibial insert for prosthesis system

A medical fastening system for a modular knee prosthesis system includes a femoral component having a first surface, a second surface, and an aperture extending therebetween. A modular adapter element has a first end that is mountable adjacent the first surface of the femoral component and a second, mating end that is engagable with a second prosthesis component. The system also includes a first bolt that mates the adapter element to the femoral component. Various connection options are possible to secure different components of the system to each other.

Medical fastening system

A modular orthopaedic clamping tool system includes a clamp and a plurality of modular tools. The clamp has a handle having substantially parallel first and second actuation members with a jaw member integral with the first actuation member and a modular attachment element integral with the second actuation member. A linkage connects the first and second actuation members and operates to maintain a substantially parallel orientation between the actuation members while the clamp moves between open and closed positions. In addition, the orthopaedic clamping tool may be locked without causing an excessive clamping force on a clamped bone.

The invention provides a modular system of components used as bone preparation tools and trial prosthesis components. The system includes a trial tibial tray bearing element that mounts upon a prepared tibia, a punch bushing that serves the purpose of a trial tibial stem and helps to guide a tibial punch through the tibia. The trial template element, the punch bushing and the tibial punch can remain in position on the patient's tibia while one or more trial tibial bearing inserts or samples are attached thereto to determine the proper fit and orientation of a prosthesis.

Modular instrumentation for bone preparation and implant trial reduction

Instrumentation is provided for forming a cavity in the distal femur and for using that cavity as a reference for making exterior distal cuts of the femoral bone. At least a part of the walls of the cavity are formed by the cortical (hard) bone of the femur. In addition to its use in cutting the exterior bone, the cavity also serves to affix a femoral knee prosthesis to the femoral bone.

Instrument for implanting a femoral knee prosthesis

An acetabular cup system is provided in which an insert or liner may be selected from a plurality of types of inserts to be used with an acetabular shell. One insert may be oriented after it is removably inserted into the acetabular shell. After an orientation is selected, it may be permanently fixed by pins. The other insert includes a snap-in ring that allows the insert to be snapped into position with the shell after its orientation is selected. The snap-in insert and ring are removable from the shell using a device for removing such snap-in insert and ring.
