A method for inferring energy content of a flow fluid in a gaseous state is disclosed. The method is carried out by a computer system () having a processor () and memory (), the memory () having an inference module (), the method comprising inferring, by the inference module (), the inferred energy content of the flow fluid in the gaseous state from an inferential relationship between the inferred energy content of the flow fluid in the gaseous state with at least one measurement taken of the flow fluid in the liquid state.

A viscometer () is provided, for determining a viscosity of a gas therein. The viscometer () comprises a driver () and a planar vibratory member () vibratable by the driver (), that comprises a body () and a vibratable portion () emanating from the body (), wherein the vibratable portion () comprises a plurality of vibratable cantilevered projections. At least one pickoff sensor () is configured to detect vibrations of the vibratory member (). Meter electronics () comprise an interface () configured to send an excitation signal to the driver () and to receive a vibrational response from the at least one pickoff sensor (), measure a Q and resonant frequency of the planar vibratory member (), and to determine a viscosity () of the gas therein using the measured Q and the measured resonant frequency.

The invention provides a method of driving a vibrating sensor in which the drive signal is combined with an amplitude modulated high frequency carrier. The signal is demodulated at a position adjacent to the component to be driven. This method may be applied to reducing cross-talk between drive and pick-up wire pairs and also to passing both drive and pickup signals, and two drive signals, down the same wire pair.
