A composition containing succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor and a potentiator has been discovered to enhance the activity of the succinate dehydrogenase such that the amount of the succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor need to effectively treat a microbial substance can be reduced substantially. The compositions may be used as additives for paints and coatings, and protecting crops, seeds, wallboard, metal working fluids, wood from mold, fungi and other microbes.

Succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor containing compositions

A composition having biocidal properties is disclosed. The composition includes a first biocide, optionally a second biocide, and a biocide enhancing agent. The first biocide may comprise an isothiazolin. The second biocide may comprise a pyrithione. The biocide enhancing agent may comprise an amine, an amine salt, an amine oxide, or mixtures thereof. The amine compound may have a carbon chain length of at least six carbon atoms, such as at least eight carbon atoms.

The composition is characterized by enhanced anti-fungal and anti-dandruff efficacy in shampoos. Also disclosed is a personal care composition, preferably a shampoo, containing a topical carrier and coated particles of a salt of pyrithione selected from the group consisting of monovalent and polyvalent pyrithione salts, and combinations thereof, partially or fully coated with a lipophilic agent.

Coated metal pyrithione particles for treatment of microorganisms

A method for producing a suspension, emulsion or dispersion of de-agglomerated particles (advantageously submicron-sized particles) of pyrithione salts comprising contacting agglomerated pyrithione salt particles with a de-agglomerating agent to produce the desired de-agglomerated pyrithione salt particles. Also disclosed is a method for making de-agglomerated submicron-sized particles of pyrithione salts comprising a heating step. Also disclosed are the particles made by the above methods and compositions comprising the particles and a base medium.

The present invention is also directed to a water treatment composition, comprising: (a) an inner core layer comprising calcium hypochlorite; (b) one or more interlayers of selected salts positioned on top of said inner core layer, and (c) one or more outer layers of selected salts positioned on top of said interlayer(s).

A biocidal composition is disclosed comprising composite particles, each of said composite particles containing a shell and a core, said core comprising a metal or a metal-containing compound wherein the metal is a moiety selected from the group consisting of zinc, copper, bismuth, silver, zirconium, and combinations thereof said shell comprising a pyrithione adduct comprising the reaction product of pyrithione with a portion of said core metal or metal compound. In one aspect, an anti-fouling composition is disclosed comprising (a) an anti-soft-fouling effective amount of copper pyrithione; and (b) an anti-hard-fouling effective amount of a copper-containing salt, or oxide or hydroxide thereof. The present invention also relates to a method of making an anti-fouling composition comprising particles of copper pyrithione and a copper-containing salt that is effective against hard-fouling and soft-fouling organisms.

Composite biocidal particles

A biocidal composition is disclosed comprising composite particles, each of the composite particles containing a shell and a core, the core comprising a metal or a metal-containing compound wherein the metal is a moiety selected from the group consisting of zinc, copper, bismuth, silver, zirconium, and combinations thereof, the shell comprising a pyrithione adduct comprising the reaction product of pyrithione with a portion of the core metal or metal compound. Disclosed are topical compositions for the treatment of microbial infections on the skin or scalp which include a polyvalent metal salt of pyrithione and include a metal ion source. Also disclosed are methods for treating microbial infections of the skin or scalp using such compositions.

Topical anti-microbial compositions

The present invention relates to non-spherical and/or non-platelet pyrithione particles. Also disclosed is a method for producing non-spherical and/or non-platelet particles of pyrithione salts, comprising reacting pyrithione acid or a water-soluble salt of pyrithione and a water-soluble polyvalent metal salt in the presence of an ionic surfactant composition at temperature from about 20&deg; C. to about 60&deg; C. and at a pH from 4-9 to produce non-spherical and/or non-platelet particles of pyrithione salts. The present invention further relates to particles made by the above methods and products, such as shampoos, soaps, and skin-care medicaments made using these particles.

Non-spherical and non-platelet forms of pyrithione salts and methods of making same

Disclosed is a personal care composition comprising: (a) water or an alcohol, (b) at least one dispersant or surfactant, and (c) as an antimicrobial or preservative additive, particles of an in-situ transchelation reaction product of a zinc compound selected from the group consisting of zinc salts of organic acids, zinc salts of inorganic acids, zinc hydroxide, zinc oxide, and combinations thereof, said zinc compound being soluble in said water or alcohol, with pyrithione acid or a pyrithione salt that is soluble in said water or alcohol. Also disclosed is a process for preparing the personal care composition, and a coated substrate containing a coating of the personal care composition.

In-situ generation of zinc pyrithione in personal care compositions

The present invention relates to a method for producing submicron-sized particles of pyrithione salts, comprising reacting pyrithione or a water-soluble salt of pyrithione and a water-soluble polyvalent metal salt in a pressurized turbulent flow reactor that generates pulverizing forces, the reaction producing submicron sized particles of pyrithione salt. The present invention also relates to particles made by the above method, and products, such as shampoos, soaps, and skin care medicaments made using these particles.
