A stand-off range or at-a-distance iris detection and tracking for iris recognition having a head/face/eye locator, a zoom-in iris capture mechanism and an iris recognition module. The system may obtain iris information of a subject with or without his or her knowledge or cooperation. This information may be sufficient for identification of the subject, verification of identity and/or storage in a database.

A system includes an image sensing device that is configured to receive a digital image of a human hand, and a range sensing device that is configured to receive range data relating a distance from the range sensing device to a plurality of points on the human hand. The system uses the range data to generate a range map of the human hand, normalizes a pose of the image of the human hand using the range data and the image, extracts one or more features of the hand from the normalized pose, and stores the extracted features into a computer storage medium.

System for iris detection tracking and recognition at a distance

A device for detecting the presence of human skin including an illuminator source for providing a first IR band and a second IR band. The first IR band is capable of being reflected from skin and the second IR band is capable of being absorbed by skin. A detector receives the first and second IR band after the bands have contacted the skin and provides a signal indicating the presence or absence of each of the first and second IR bands. A processing unit processes the signal and indicates the presence of skin when the first IR band is present and the second IR band is absent. The preferred first IR band is about 0.8 to about 1.4 &#x3bc;m and the second IR band is about 1.4 to about 2.2 &#x3bc;m. Preferably one illuminator interacts with two detectors, one for each of the two IR bands.
