A device and method for aftertreating exhaust gases in which a controllable valve is used to introduce a supplementary agent in fluid form into the exhaust system at high pressures. The high-pressure promotes an efficient mixture of the supplementary agent for the aftertreatment with the exhaust gas emerging from the internal combustion engine.

Device and method for aftertreating exhaust gases

An internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle has an adsorption catalyst which may be loaded with nitrogen oxides and unloaded. During the unloading, the exhaust-gas stream through the adsorption catalyst may be decreased by a control unit or an add-on device, using a valve. During the unloading, a fuel/air mixture may be added to the exhaust-gas stream reaching the adsorption catalyst, by the control unit or the add-on device, using an atomizer. Upon switching over from the unloading to the loading of the adsorption catalyst, the addition of the fuel/air mixture to the exhaust-gas stream is initially stopped by the control unit or the add-on device. The decreasing of the exhaust-gas stream is then ended after a predefined flushing time.

Method for operating an internal combustion engine, especially a motor vehicle internal combustion engine

A method and a device are described for controlling an exhaust gas aftertreatment system for an internal combustion engine. A state variable is ascertained, which characterizes the state of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system. The temperature of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system is controlled as a function of the state of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system and/or of the internal combustion engine.

Method and device for controlling an exhaust gas aftertreatment system

The invention relates to an apparatus for dividing an entering gas flow into two split flows, each of which flows through a branch of a line system. A control element is provided, which executes a control motion about a shaft between a first position and a second position. The entering gas flow is divided continuously, by means of the adjustable control element, at a volumetric flow ratio, and at the same time the control element allocates a medium to be metered, whose infeed point is associated with the control element, to the split flows at a different ratio V.

A mixture delivery device for introducing a reducing agent into an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine in which, a urea-water solution is introduced into a region of the exhaust gas system, upstream of a catalytic converter, through the introduction of compressed air, in order to bring about the reduction of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine. The mixture delivery device includes a mixture carrying line, with a first section that extends laterally to the exhaust gas flow and a second section that extends concentrically to a longitudinal axis of the exhaust gas system. The mixture carrying line is inserted into the exhaust gas system, wherein the urea-water solution is injected in the form of a cone into the exhaust gas upstream of the catalytic converter via blow-out openings embodied radially in the second section. The mixture delivery device is particularly suited for delivering a urea-water solution upstream of the catalytic converter in the exhaust gas system of a mixture compressing, spontaneously igniting internal combustion engine.
