An electric range top has a cooking surface with at least one hotspot and a display-and-control panel for the cooking surface. The panel accommodates display devices and manually operated control devices for regulating each hotspot. The cooking surface has a cutout in one corner wherein the panel is mounted. One area of the cooking surface is elevated and at least partly overlaps the cutout and the display and control devices are positioned in the vicinity of the elevated area.

A coolant circuit, for example of a refrigerator or freezer unit, includes a coolant source at a very low temperature. A finger-type chilling member is thermoconductively connected to the coolant source and is adapted to be positioned within a tank containing water that is flowed to wash around the member. Thereby, the water freezes on the member in the form of a clear ice piece. A heating device is connected to the member to selectively heat the member to detach therefrom the ice piece formed thereon. A thermal barrier is connected to the member at a position to separate the heating device and that portion of the member on which the ice piece is formed from the coolant source. The thermal barrier thus limits cooling of the member by the coolant source and also limits transfer of heat from the heating device to the coolant source. A control circuit includes a regulating circuit to operate the heating device to maintain the temperature of the member at an approximately constant value above a predetermined minimum value necessary to produce clear ice pieces.

System and apparatus for the manufacture of clear ice pieces and control

An ice dispensing and crushing apparatus is disclosed for dispensing and selectively crushing pieces of ice. The apparatus includes a supply bin for containing and supplying pieces of ice, a conveying trough formed at least partially within a lower portion of the supply bin and extending in an inclined manner toward a dispensing housing through which ice pieces can be dispensed. A helical conveyor is mounted for rotation in the conveying trough and is operable to convey individual pieces of ice one-by-one toward a dispensing opening formed in a lateral side of the dispensing housing. An ejection device, such as an ejection bar, is mounted adjacent the helical conveyor and acts to eject extra pieces of ice so as to assure the individual successive conveyance of the ice pieces. A crushing device is disposed at the dispensing end of the helical conveyor and includes rotatable arms which rotate with the helical conveyor, and pivotably mounted anvil members which are movable between operative and inoperative position. The anvil members can be selectively moved from their inoperative positions into their operative positions wherein they partially extend through the dispensing opening of the dispensing housing, by a selectively actuable magnetic solenoid. Undesirable crushing of ice pieces is thus avoided because the anvil members are retracted from the dispensing housing when no crushing is desired. A water-return duct is formed at a bottom portion of the dispensing housing so as to return melted ice to the supply bin.

An oven in which at least one cooling air blower generates a cooling air current in cooling air ducting in the housing containing an incoming air duct and an exhaust air duct, this current flowing through the space in the oven door between the outer panel of the oven door and an inner panel of the oven door. A more uniform cooling action on the surface of the panel of the oven door is achieved by designing the air ducting to match the temperature distribution on the outermost panel of the oven door with a varying air flow across the width of the door, the greatest volume of air flow occurring in the middle section.

Baking oven

A refrigerator and/or freezer for installation into a row of kitchen units has a door and a recessed base below the door, the recessed base being adapted to accommodate variable heights of the recessed base relative to the floor supporting the refrigerator/freezer and variable amounts of recession relative to the door. A main ventilation channel and two side ventilation channels are defined in the recessed base. The cooling unit is disposed in the recessed base and has compressors, a condenser and a fan for circulating air through the main ventilation channel and the side channels. An adjustable ventilation grille is disposed on the front portion of the ventilation channels by two fixed inner wall sections and two side wall sections movably supported on the fixed inner wall sections. The ventilation grille is mounted so as to be both vertically adjustable in discrete steps on the recessed base, as well as horizontally adjustable to adjust the amount of recession of the base. The mounting of the side wall sections to the fixed inner wall sections allow for horizontal adjustment, while the mounting of the ventilation grill to the side wall sections allows for vertical adjustment.

An apparatus for drawing off vapor from kitchen equipment comprises at least one draught flue running along one side of the kitchen appliance having a long, narrow exhausting opening and a fan connected thereto by flexible air ducts. To avoid the introduction of cold air on linking with the external atmosphere and also to prevent particles, small kitchen tools or the like dropping into the draught flue when the fan and therefore the kitchen appliance is not in use, on the draught flue is mounted at least one cover for the suction opening in such a way that it pivots between an open and a closed position and is provided with a drive coupled to the fan on-off switch.

Apparatus for drawing off vapors from kitchen equipment

An oven includes an oven structure having an oven interior, an oven door for closing the oven interior, the oven door having a transparent or translucent front plate for allowing viewing of the oven interior through the oven door, and visible adjustment and display elements for setting and displaying parameters relating to the operation of the oven. The adjustment and display elements are visual elements mounted to be covered by the front plate when the oven door is closed. The front plate has light absorbing coloration or a reflective, translucent coating to allow only the visual elements and the oven interior when illuminated to be viewed therethrough.
