A wastegate assembly for controlling flow of exhaust gas includes a valve element having a valve body and a valve shaft. The wastegate assembly further includes a spindle. The wastegate assembly further includes a washer coupled to the valve shaft and spaced from the spindle for securing the spindle to the valve shaft. A plurality of cup springs is disposed between the spindle and the washer. The plurality of cup springs includes at least a first cup spring and a second cup spring, with the first cup spring supported on the spindle head and the second cup spring orientated substantially identical to the first cup spring and disposed directly on the first cup spring.

Valve assembly for a charging device

A wastegate assembly for controlling flow of exhaust gas includes a valve element having a valve body and a valve shaft. The wastegate assembly further includes a spindle having a head defining an opening and including a flat surface. The wastegate assembly further includes a washer coupled to the valve shaft and spaced from the spindle for securing the spindle to the valve shaft. The washer defines a bottom washer surface facing the flat surface of the spindle head, with the bottom washer surface including a flat region and a beveled region. A biasing member is disposed between the flat surface of the spindle and the flat and beveled regions of the washer. The beveled region extends oblique relative to the flat region for minimizing contact between the washer and the biasing member beyond the flat region.

Shaft assembly of an exhaust-gas turbocharger

A turbocharger () is provided with one or more movement control members () that are connected to the housing () and limit axial movement of the adjustment ring (). The members () can be inserted into one or more holes () formed in the housing () and can extend from the holes () in a direction towards the adjustment ring (). The holes () can be through-holes, blind-holes or combinations thereof. Various connection structures and methods can be used to affix the members () to the housing () including self-locking members, casting, heat welding, friction welding, vibration hammering and staking.

Variable geometry turbocharger with stand-off members

A vane ring assembly which includes a lower vane ring (), an upper vane ring (), one or more guide vanes () positioned at least partially between the vane rings, and a plurality of spacers (, or) positioned between the lower and upper vane rings for maintaining a distance between the lower and upper vane rings. By using a first set of fasteners () to fasten the lower vane ring to the turbine housing, and a second set of fasteners () to fasten the lower vane ring to the upper vane ring, the vane ring assembly is effectively decoupled from the turbine housing with regard to differential thermal expansion, and the co-planerism of the vane rings is easier to maintain.

Variable geometry turbocharger lower vane ring retaining system

A vane ring assembly includes a lower vane ring (), an upper vane ring (), one or more guide vanes () positioned at least partially between the vane rings, and a spacer () positioned between the lower and upper vane rings () for maintaining a distance between the lower and upper vane rings (). The spacer has a first end () with a first diameter, a second end () with a second diameter, and a middle section () with a third diameter. The third diameter is larger than the first and second diameters. The first and second ends () of the spacer () are inserted at least partially into a first counter bore () and a second counter bore () formed in the lower and upper vane rings (). A nut () and a fastener () running through a central through hole () of the spacer () are used to connect the vane ring assembly to a turbocharger housing. A clearance (c) of greater than e.g. 5% of the fastener diameter is formed between an inside wall () of the spacer () an outside wall () of the metal fastener () to offset any thermal expansion or deformation.

A vane ring assembly which includes a lower vane ring (), an upper vane ring (), one or more guide vanes () positioned at least partially between the vane rings, and a plurality of spacers (or) positioned between the lower and upper vane rings for maintaining a distance between the lower and upper vane rings. A guiding grid of variable geometry for turbines comprises a turbine housing and a plurality of guiding vanes in the housing in angular distances around a central axis. Each vane is pivotal about an associated pivoting axis to assume different angles in relation to the central axis and, thus, to form a nozzle of variable cross-section between each pair of adjacent vanes. A generally annular nozzle ring supports the adjustment shafts of the guiding vanes. A unison ring is displaceable around the central axis relative to the nozzle ring. This unison ring is operatively connected to the vanes via a transmission mechanism in order to pivot them when being displaced to adjust their respective angular position in relation to the central axis. The transmission mechanism comprises a first transmission element with an opening and a second transmission element slidably engaging this opening. This second transmission element is formed as a lever pivotally articulated on one of the rings and being dragged by this ring during relative movement between the unison ring and the nozzle ring, while immerging into the opening of the first transmission element in an approximately radial direction.
