A door closer is described in which transmission ratios which change in dependence on the closing angle can be realized by eccentric toothed elements. The toothed elements can have different profile offsets, moduli and flank angles along their respective pitch curves.

A door closer is described in which transmission characteristics which change in dependence on the closing angle can be realized either by two pistons disposed coaxially within one another and displaceable relative to one another, or by eccentric toothed elements.

A door holding device for door closers is described in which a door is held only at a predetermined angle of opening and in which the selected holding position can remain unchanged over a long period of time but can nevertheless be released by electrical means. For this purpose the switching of the door is effected, starting from a known mechanical door holding device which can be switched in and switched out, via a control unit which is biased into a door holding position by the hydraulic pressure which is in any event present in the closer and which can be released again via a magnetic valve.

The cross-country ski binding has a plate which is arranged on the upper surface of the ski and is pivotable about a vertical axis located in the ball region of a boot. The plate is held in the central position by means of a latch device which releases to permit rotation of the plate relative to the ski on the occurrence of impermissibly high turning moments relative to the vertical axis and thus relative to the ball region.

Releasable cross-country ski binding

A safety toe unit for a ski binding has two sole retaining jaws (11, 12) which can pivot laterally outwards in opposite directions. A respective projection (13, 14) of a pressure member (19) acts on each of the sole retaining jaws at the front between the pivot axes (15, 16) and shoe retaining rollers (17, 18). The pressure member (19) is arranged for displacement in the longitudinal direction of the ski substantially in front of the sole retaining jaws (11, 12) and is urged in a rearward direction by a compression spring (21) which is braced against a housing (20) which in operation is secured to the ski. The two pivot axes (15, 16) which are spaced by a small transverse distance (A) from the central longitudinal plane (22) are tilted slightly inwardly towards the vertical and central longitudinal axis (22). The pressure member (19) has an extension (24) which extends forwardly inside the coil spring (21) and which is journalled by means of a ball-shaped head (24' ) in an elongate guide sleeve (26).

Safety toe unit for a ski binding

The ski binding part consists essentially of a fulcrum part (1) which is affixed to the ski or displaceable thereon against a biasing spring (5) and on which a latch (2) is fulcrumed on a transverse axis (3) of the ski for the purpose of gripping the heel of the ski boot. On the side of the fulcrum (1) facing away from the boot, a thrust block (10) is displaceably guided on or in the latch and cooperates with a counterthrust member (13) integral with the latch. The longitudinal central axis (M) of the thrust block is disposed at a radial distance (a) below the fulcrum axis (3).

Ski binding part

A laterally releasable toe unit has two laterally pivotable side jaws (11) which are held in a ski boot retaining position by a yoke (26) on which a release spring (30) acts and which can be pivoted laterally while pushing the yoke rearwardly against the spring force to release the ski boot. A toe plate (15) which is movable by a small amount in a vertical direction is arranged behind a laterally fixed toe restrainer (13) and generates, via a force deflection transmission, a longitudinal force which is dependent on the contact force which acts on the toe and which counteracts the spring force via a bar member (12). At least one lever (14) which is acted on by the vertically displaceably or pivotably arranged toe restrainer (13) acts on the same bar member (12) in the same sense with a release force which is dependent on the vertically upwardly directed force acting on the toe restrainer (13).

Laterally releasable toe unit for a ski safety binding

A ski safety binding has a sole clamp 14, preferably formed as two sole clamp halves 14', 14', which is pressed by spring force against first and second abutment surfaces 12 provided on the binding housing 24 on respective sides of the central longitudinal axis 11. The first and second abutment surfaces 12 extend, at least in part, obliquely outwardly in the direction towards the ski boot in such a way that, during sideways release, the sole clamp 14 pivots about one or other of its points of contact 13 with the first and second abutment surfaces 12 and the associated point of contact 13 moves in the longitudinal direction of the ski in substantially exactly the same way as the vertical pivot axle 15 connecting the sole clamp to the release spring and draw rod assembly 31, 29 (FIG. 2). This means that the draw rod moves in a straight line without angular movement as in the prior art.

Ski safety binding

An electrically releasable safety ski binding in which a measuring system determines the load applied to a skier's leg during skiing and a release mechanism incorporating an electromechanical converter such as a solenoid acts on a clamp device securing the ski boot to the binding to release the ski boot when the aforementioned load reaches a dangerous level. To prevent the binding becoming inoperative on failure of the electrical power supply the binding is equipped with an auxiliary release mechanism having a first inoperative state and a second operative state which can be selected either manually or automatically should the electrically operated release mechanism fail.

Electrically releasable safety ski binding

A ski safety binding is designed to allow both a dangerous bending moment exerted about a transverse axis 15 through the weakest point of a skier's leg and a torsional moment exerted about a vertical axis 24 through the skier's leg to be detected and to be used to initiate release of the ski boot 54 from the binding when the bending and/or torsional loads approach dangerous levels. The binding basically consists of a sole plate 11 which carries a boot retaining system 56, 57 and which is mounted on a ski 12 for limited displacement in the longitudinal direction of the ski and for limited pivotal movements about a transverse axis 17 and a vertical axis 24. The sole plate is guided at its rear end for limited movement along an inclined guide 18 and along a transverse guide 21. This movement is resisted by respective hydraulic retaining means 28, 28'; 29, 29' which are however able to resiliently deflect once a predetermined load is exceeded. Movement of the sole plate in the direction of the guides 21, 28 trips a release lever 19 which releases the boot securing system. A mechanical retaining system is also described.

A ski safety binding is provided with a measuring system for determining the occurrence of a dangerous bending moment about a transverse axis 11 passing through the weakest point of the skier's leg lying generally somewhat above the ankle. In a first embodiment first, second and third measuring transducers 14, 15, 12 are strategically arranged between the sole of the ski boot and parts of a binding 33, 35 and the output signals from these measuring transducers are fed to a processing circuit 17 which computes the size of the bending moment about the transverse axis 11 and passes a release signal to an actuation device A to release the binding as soon as a dangerous level is reached. In a modification (FIG. 3) the ski boot is supported in the binding in such a manner that only two pressure measuring transducers are required. A variety of other embodiments are disclosed which show the use of ski bindings incorporating sole plates 24 (FIGS. 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12) and various other arrangements of measuring transducers and processing circuits which enable the binding to be released both during forward and rearward falls and also on the occurrence of torsional loads.
