A self-adjusting hydraulic valve tappet arranged in a guide bore of a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine and against one end face of which a control cam abuts and which on the other side bears against the end of a valve stem with its second end face, the valve tappet comprising a cup-shaped housing consisting of a hollow cylindrical wall closed at one end by a bottom against which the control cam abuts from outside and which is provided with a cylindrical guide sleeve concentric with the hollow cylindrical wall and extending at one end towards the bottom and at the other into the center of a disk member which with its outer periphery merges into the hollow cylindrical wall of the housing whereby between the hollow cylindrical wall and the cylindrical guide sleeve an annular oil reservoir supplied with oil through a bore leading to the out-side is defined, the actual hydraulic clearance compensation element being guided longitudinally displaceably in the guide sleeve and formed by an inner piston and an outer piston engaging over this.

Self-adjusting hydraulic valve tappet

A novel cage for an overrunning roller clutch comprising pockets in the cage for accommodating cam rollers defined by cross bars connected at least at one end by end ring, each pocket being provided with a separate spring element formed by a leaf spring slightly tangentially inclined relative to the adjacent crossbar, the said leaf springs being connected at one end with an annular flange abutting against the outside of one end ring of the cage and passing through the leaf springs by a cutout.

A self-adjusting hydraulic valve tappet arranged in a guide bore of a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine against whose one end face a cam abuts and whose other end face lies against a valve stem which avoids the disadvantages of the prior art and achieves a durable self-tightness of the sleeve with respect to the oil reservoir independently of the deflections of the end member by using simple constructional and particularly hardly more expensive means.

A self-adjusting hydraulic valve tappet arranged in a guide bore of a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine and comprising a cup-shaped housing (1) formed by a hollow cylindrical wall (2) closed at one end by an end member (3) against the outside of which a cam abuts and a guide sleeve (4) concentric with the hollow cylindrical wall (2) and extending at its end facing away from the end member (3) to the center of a disk member (5) connected with its outer circumference to the hollow cylindrical wall (2) of the housing (1) wherein the guide sleeve (4) is spaced from the end member (3) at its other end and guides the hydraulic play compensating element (6) for longitudinal movement thereof, characterized in that a second disk member (7) is provided which extends from the hollow cylindrical wall (2) and additionally supports the guide sleeve (4) at a distance from the first disk member (5).

A self-adjusting hydraulic valve tappet arranged in a guide bore of a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine and comprising a cup-shaped housing (1) formed by a hollow cylindrical wall (2) closed at one end by an end member (3) against the outside of which a cam abuts, a radial flange (4) provided in the bore of the hollow cylindrical wall (2) at a distance from the end member and guides for longitudinal movement of the hydraulic play compensating element (6) in a bore (5) concentric to the hollow cylindrical wall (2), characterized in that the radial flange (4) is a separate unit made of a material which has a higher thermal expansion coefficient than steel and the radial flange is inserted with its outer surface (7) in liquid-tight manner in the bore of the hollow cylindrical wall (2) and fixed therein.

An inner element for a hydraulic valve clearance compensation element for internal combustion engine comprising a cylindrical element (3) closed on one end and a piston element (5) guided therein for longitudinal displacement and protruding beyond the open end of cylindrical element (3), the piston element (5) having a reduced outer diameter (6) in its protruding portion engaging a radial flange (10) of a restraining element (9) held by a cylindrical collar (13) on the open end of cylindrical element (3), the open end of element (3) having also a reduced outer diameter (7) with an additional diameter reduction in the form of a peripheral groove (8) engaging positively the collar (13) of the restraining element (9) at at least some peripheral points, the restraining element (9) having one projection (11) at at least one peripheral point radially protruding beyond the outer diameter of cylindrical element (3), characterized in that the lengthwise region of collar (13) containing projections (11) engaging radially over the outer diameter of cylindrical element (3) and the lengthwise region of collar (13) engaging peripheral groove (8) of cylindrical element (3) lie axially behind one another without a mutual overlap.

Inner element for a hydraulic compensation element

In a hydraulic valve tappet arranged in a bore of a cylindrical guide bore f a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine comprising a cup shaped housing (1) comprising a hollow outer wall (2) closed at one end by an end member (3) and a cylindrical sleeve 4 bearing against it in its bore, the cylindrical sleeve changing into an annular element (5) near end member (3), the annular element (5) carrying in its bore a guide sleeve (6) running coaxially with the outer wall (2), an oil duct (7) formed in the longitudinal direction at a peripheral location between outer wall (2) and cylindrical sleeve (4) starting from an oil feed bore (8) in outer wall (2) and terminating in an annular outer oil reservoir (10) at the junction between cylindrical sleeve (4) and the annular element (5), the outer oil reservoir (10) being defined by end member (3) of housing (1), annular element (5) and a hydraulic compensating element (11) comprised of outer cylindrical element (12) longitudinally moveable in guide sleeve (4) and closed at its end away from end member (3) of housing (1) and provided in its bore with a piston element (13) longitudinally moveable with little play, the piston element (13) comprising a hollow cylindrical casing (14) provided with a partition (15) between its ends having a through bore (16) closed by a check valve (17) and one end thereof bears against the inner surface of end member (3) to define a central oil reservoir (18) extending in front of check valve (17) and its other end together with cylindrical element (12) defines a high pressure oil chamber (19) closed by check valve (17) and with a recess (20) serving as oil transfer opening provided at a peripheral location of the contact area of piston element (13) and end member (3) on the inner surface of member (3) overlapping the contact area, the improvement comprising that the opening (9) of oil duct (7) into the annular outer oil reservoir (10) and recess (20) on the inner surface of end member (3) are diametrically opposite each other.

Hydraulic valve tappet

A cup-shaped casing of a self-adjusting hydraulic tappet for overhead camft internal combustion engines, the casing comprising a hollow cylindrical outer part (1) closed at one end by an end member (3) and disposed concentrically therein a hollow cylindrical inner element (4) sealingly connected at its end distal from end member (3) to the bore of the outer part (1) by an annular flange (5), the actual clearance-compensating element (9) being guided in inner element (4) and having around it an annular oil reservoir (10) bounded radially by cylinder wall (2) of outer part (1) and bounded axially by end member (3) of outer part (1) and by flange (5), the outer generated surface of outer part (1) being provided with a peripheral groove (7), characterized in that peripheral groove (7) is axially at least as far from end member (3) as the transition between flange (5) and cylinder wall (2) of outer part (1) and an axial groove (11) starts from peripheral groove (7) at at least one place on the periphery and extends to near the oil reservoir (10) or a chamber (14) communicating therewith and its end zone communicates by through bore (12,17) with the oil reservoir (10) or the chamber (14).

An improved method of machining the raceway of a roller bearing race for cylindrical rollers having two concentric cylindrical surfaces with one surface being the raceway and the other cylindrical surface being the seating surface of the roller bearing race comprising elastically compressing the seating surface to assume an exactly cylindrical shape, shaping the raceway surface by chip removal into an exactly cylindrical form concentric with the seating surface and removing the compression pressure and novel apparatus for carrying out the method.

Method and apparatus for machining roller bearings

A method of producing a metal sleeve having at least one recess open at the nd face extending over a portion of the axial length of the sleeve from a cylindrical pipe section comprising (a) inserting a cylindrical pipe section into the annular cavity of a die which cavity is radially greater than the wall thickness of the pipe section, (b) subjecting the pipe section to axial ram pressure whereby a bulge in the central portion of the pipe section occurs with the central portion bearing against the outer limiting wall of the die cavity and the end portions bearing against the inner limiting wall of the die cavity, (c) applying further pressure on the pipe section whereby it fills the die cavity except for a circular depression in the center of the pipe section bore and (d) acting on the resulting pipe section with a second ram with an end face with contours corresponding to the recesses whereby the displaced material from the contours enter into the circular depression of the pipe section to partially fill the same.
