The present invention provides a process for prolonging the dormancy of plants or plant parts, wherein the plants or plant parts are treated with an aqueous cyanamide solution before the anticipated sprouting.

A method and a composition for interrupting bud dormancy of perennial crop-bearing plants, comprising a 0.1-10 weight percent, preferably a 1-3 weight percent aqueous cyanamide solution, which is applied to the plants and/or plant parts to be treated until they are completely wetted.

Aqueous solutions of commonly used fertilizers which also contain dicyandiamide, in an amount to provide at least 10% by weight of dicyandiamide nitrogen, are effective nitrification inhibitors and have an improved capacity to dissolve micronutrients to form solutions of improved micronutrient stability.
