A device for the electrophotographic production of image patterns has at least one printing unit to which toner is supplied and has an arrangement for transferring used toner from a cleaning station of the printing unit to a used toner container. The arrangement for transferring can be interrupted to enable changing the used toner container without interrupting the printing operation of the device.

A printing device, in particular a printer or a copier, and method for its operation which includes a first electrographic printing unit for printing an image pattern on a sheet-type material in a first transfer printing transport path as well as a second electrographic printing unit for printing an image pattern on a sheet-type material in a second transfer printing transport path, and further including an input section via which the sheet-type material can be supplied individually one after the other to both the first and second electrographic printing units, and further having an output section via which the printed sheet-type material from either the first or second electrographic printing units is ejected individually one after the other. The first and second printing units are in first and second transfer printing transport paths that are connected by connecting paths that form first and second rings. The first ring has a supply channel, the second ring has a carry off channel and a two direction connecting channel is between the first and second transfer printing transport paths.

A printer or copier has a paper feeder provided with a plurality of compartments which hold paper for feeding the paper to the printer and a circuit to control conveying of the paper to the printer. The paper feeder includes a drive to move the paper from the paper compartments to a conveying path where it is carried to the printer. A branching portion is provided in the conveying path. Further paper feeders may be connected in series to the first paper feeder, each paper feeder having a plurality of paper compartments and feeding the paper out of a lower paper feed path to the next paper feeder device.

An apparatus for electrophotographic production of images on a printing medium, such as a printer or copier, has a printing unit fed with toner from a toner storage tank. Toner can be refilled into the tank through a closable opening without interrupting the printing operation.

Upon employment of a print element moved in line direction, those strokes containing an ascender are printed in a first motion of the print element for the representation of characters whose strokes respectively comprise a central area, a central area and an ascender or a central area and a descender. Subsequently, the recording medium is displaced relative to the print element such that those strokes containing descenders can be printed during a second motion of the print element. Those strokes which contain only a central area are printed either during the first motion or during the second motion of the print element. The recording medium is subsequently displaced by a height allocated to a line spacing.

Method and apparatus for the representation of characters

Apparatus for loading and precisely positioning a magnetic disc in a drive housing is provided including a spring biased stop member for receiving the interior edge of the magnetic disc and a pivotal cover flap for directing insertion of the disc interiorly of the drive housing. The cover flap is provided with a lock spring element which presses against the outer edge of the magnetic disc and pushes it against the biased stop. The stop member is formed with a locating projection and the cover flap is formed with beveled guide surfaces to precisely orient the disc within the drive housing. Displacement of the stop member is limited by cooperating abutment means, so that precise operating position of the disc in the drive housing is afforded. As the cover flap is closed, a cam member formed on the cover flap activates a clamping member simultaneous with the final positioning of the disc in the drive housing to effect a frictional connection between the magnetic disc and a rotatable drive device.

Apparatus for advancing the ribbon in printing machines such as office typewriters, teleprinters and the like, such apparatus including a pair of ribbon reels mounted on a type carrier carriage which is movable relative to a paper carriage, and a cable looped around a pair of drive rollers connected respectively to the ribbon reels for joint rotation. One end of the cable is held fast in relation to the paper carriage while the other end is connected to a selectively movable armature of an electro-magnet for alternately tensioning and relaxing the cable, whereby the ribbon reels are rotated by the cable as the type carrier carriage moves in an operative or printing direction relative to the paper carriage, but are not rotated as the type carrier carriage moves back in an operative direction to begin another printing cycle. A pair of cables and armatures may be used to effect reverse winding of the ribbon on the reels, and a single, double-acting armature may serve to tension and relax both cables.
