A method for providing a name service within an industrial automation system, wherein communication devices of the industrial automation system each check via a name service component whether a device name with a topological or hierarchical name component, which essentially completely designates a spatial or hierarchical arrangement of the respective communication device, is allocated to the respective communication device, where in cases of a positive check result, the communication devices each designate their associated device name as complete device name, and where in cases of a negative check result, the communication devices each independently generate their complete device name from topological or hierarchical name components distributed via messages with router advertisements and a name component unambiguous within their respective subnetwork.

Communication device and method for providing a name service within an industrial automation system

A method of operating an automation system cyclically communicating with a central unit in accordance with a send clock and a predetermined reduction ratio using a first cycle time, wherein the central unit uses a send clock SCC for its communication, and communicates with the automation device taking into account the send clock and a reduction ratio of the automation device, and wherein the send clock for the automation device is divided by the send clock of the central unit, the largest power-of-2 value smaller than the division result is selected and multiplied with the reduction ratio of the automation device resulting in a reduction ratio of the central unit for communicating with the automation device, and the reduction ratio of the automation device is used to step down the send clock of the central unit for cyclically communicating with the automation device using a second cycle time.

Method of operating an automation system

There is described a method and a system allowing the use of at least one resource of a first automation system in at least one second automation system, whereby the resource is made available by the first automation system and an identification characteristic is used for the unique identification of the resource in the at least second automation system. A user is enabled to navigate in a simple manner between the application locations of originator and user of a resource. This is achieved by the fact that the use of the resource of the first automation system in the at least second automation system is mapped as a bilateral reference in each case between the automation systems and is stored in each case in a storage area in the automation systems, whereby the bilateral reference also contains application locations of the resource in the respective automation system. By using this method or system, a rapid identification of the communication partners involved with a resource can be displayed and the declaration location or the application location of this resource can be displayed there. This method is particularly suitable for supporting the navigation between a variable made available and its application locations and the corresponding instances in the case of bilateral programmed function block communication. With regard to unilateral programmed function block communication, it is possible to navigate between the variable reference specified at the block and the actual variable. This navigation is effected with system support and always finds all the application locations. A major source of error is thereby avoided.

Navigation between application locations of resources in automation systems

A method and a configuration component for assigning a respective station name to a plurality of components of an industrial automation arrangement, wherein projected components are each allocated a station name and a number of projected properties in a project.
