A cartridge contains a beverage ingredient which comprises liquid beverage ingredient and elongate particles of beverage ingredient. The cartridge comprises an inlet () for the introduction of an aqueous medium, an outlet () for a beverage produced from the beverage ingredient, and a flow path linking the inlet to the outlet. The cartridge further comprises a filter () located in the flow path and an aperture () located in the flow path downstream of the filter, the aperture arranged, in use, to generate a jet of beverage. The filter has a plurality of openings () sized to retain a substantial portion of the elongate particles on the upstream side of the filter to prevent blockage of the aperture. The maximum area of each opening on the upstream face of the filter is no more than ten times the area of the aperture.

Cartridge and method for the preparation of beverages

A cartridge containing one or more beverage ingredients and comprising an inlet for the introduction of an aqueous medium and an outlet for the beverage produced from the one or more beverage ingredients, the cartridge incorporating within a beverage flow path between the inlet and the outlet an eductor for entraining air into the beverage, the eductor comprising an aperture for producing a low pressure jet of the beverage.

Beverage cartridge

The present invention relates to advancements in injection molding and in particular to a method and apparatus for co-injection molding articles of complex non symmetrical geometry. The method forms a multilayer injection molded article comprising an outer skin of a first material and a central core of a second material which is encapsulated by the outer skin. The first and second materials are injected in a single stream into a cavity of an injection mold, with the second material encased within the first material. The flow of the stream is controlled by means of flow paths within the mold cavity such that both the first and second materials are present in at least one first area of the mold cavity and that only the first material is present in at least one second area of the mold cavity. The flow paths include at least one primary flow path in the first mold cavity area which divides into at least two secondary flow paths. The resistance of a first of the secondary flow paths in the at least one first mold cavity area is reduced relative to that of a second of the two secondary flow paths, which is in the at least the second mold cavity area.

Co-injection moulding

A cartridge containing one or more ingredients for the preparation of beverages. The cartridge comprises an inlet for the introduction of an aqueous medium into the cartridge, an outlet for a beverage produced from said one or more beverage ingredients, an aperture in a beverage flow path linking the inlet to the outlet which generates, in use, a jet of beverage, and an expansion chamber located downstream of the aperture. The expansion chamber comprises an expansion chamber inlet for receiving the jet of beverage and an expansion chamber outlet; and an air inlet located in the expansion chamber in the vicinity of the expansion chamber inlet. The cross-sectional area of the expansion chamber decreases in a downstream direction from the expansion chamber inlet to the expansion chamber outlet, and the cross-sectional area and profile of the expansion chamber outlet are substantially the same as the cross-sectional area and profile of the beverage stream as it passes through the outlet.
