Disclosed herein are a surgical system for patella tracking and a method for selecting a properly-sized patellar implant utilizing the same. The surgical system may include first and second trackers and a patellar tracking system. The first tracker may be configured to contact an unresected or a resected patella, and the second tracker may be configured to contact a bone. The patellar tracking system may be configured to track the first and second trackers during patellar flexion and extension to generate patellar range of motion and patellar trial range of motion. A method for selecting a patellar implant may utilize the first and second trackers and the patellar tracking system.

Patella tracking

Measured forces applied by a medical professional during a gap assessment can be measured. A plurality of force sensors is placed at a lateral ankle position, a medial ankle position, a lateral foot position, and/or a medial foot position, and each detects an applied force during an abduction-adduction examination. Further, a computing device receives, from each of the plurality of sensors during the abduction-adduction examination, data representing an applied force occurring during the abduction-adduction examination at respective ones of the lateral ankle position, the medial ankle position, the lateral foot position, and the medial foot position. The computing device calculates, using the received data, respective peak applied forces during the abduction-adduction examination in extension and flexion, and provides information representing a correlation of the respective peak applied forces with other information.

System and method for quantifying gap assessment examination

In one or more implementations, a method and system are disclosed in which at least one processor receives information associated with an upcoming arthroplasty and demographic factors of a patient in the upcoming arthroplasty. The processor(s) access i) procedure information representing arthroplasty previously performed for each of a plurality of patients and ii) implant information representing types and sizes of implants from a plurality of manufacturers. Further, the processor(s) determine respective unadjusted probabilities of each of a plurality of implant size options within a range of implant sizes, based on i) of at least one statistical model, ii) the accessed procedure information and the implant information, and iii) the demographic factors of the patient. Moreover, the processor(s) generate information representing some of the respective implant size options and unadjusted probabilities and transmits automatically, to at least one computing device associated with an inventory control system, the generated information.

Predicting implant size in arthroplasty using demographic variables

Generating a prediction for at least one implant size for use in arthroplasty is disclosed. Patient demographic factors are received and processed to generate at least one implant size prediction. The processing includes accessing procedure information representing joint replacement procedures previously performed for a plurality of patients and implant information representing types and sizes of implants from a plurality of manufacturers and determining, as a function of at least one statistical model and the accessed procedural information and implant information, unadjusted probabilities of implant size recommendations in a range of implant sizes. At least one processor is further configured for providing, in a graphical user interface operating on at least one user computing device, information representing the respective implant size recommendations and unadjusted probabilities. Further, the at least one processor is configured for receiving a selection of at least one of the respective implant size recommendations.
