A detector probe, for detecting ionizing radiation and which is suitable for use in a nucleonic instrument usable in locations having a high ambient temperature, includes an array of radiation detectors mounted on a support and a heat pipe for cooling the detector probe. The nucleonic instrument incorporating such a detector probe is also described.

Radiation detector

A detector probe for detecting ionizing radiation includes at least one detector () mounted on a support (), and an electrically operated source of heat () arranged on the support in proximity to the detector so that the temperature of the detector may be changed by operation of the heat source. The detector probe may be used in the manufacture of a level gauge or density profiler.

A nucleonic density profiler includes a detector probe, for detecting ionizing radiation, includes an array of sources of ionizing radiation, an array of radiation detectors and a circuit board including at least two circuit board portions. A power source and electronic apparatus includes a control unit and a signal and data processor for calculating a density profile of the material phases using signals generated by the detectors in response to radiation received from the radiation sources.

Radiation detector for density or level measurements

A radiation detector module includes a radiation detector, power source and wireless communication elements all housed within a flame-proof enclosure. The enclosure has a portion through which wireless transmissions can pass. The radiation detector module may be suitable for use in a hazardous area containing a potentially explosive gas mixture.

The invention comprises an apparatus comprising a water-proof housing assembly comprising a housing () and a display panel (), and incorporating an enclosure () containing electrical apparatus, wherein said display panel is formed from a clear material () encapsulating a visual display () and/or a light-source () and said apparatus is capable of operating in water at a pressure of at least 300 bar without ingress of water into the enclosure. The apparatus may be used as an instrument or a lighting unit in sub-sea environments. The invention comprises further a light-source attachment for a powered apparatus comprising a light source embedded within a block of clear material () and means for mounting said block on the powered apparatus such that a connector connects the light source to a power source within the powered apparatus.

Monitoring instrument

A printing device is described, predominantly for printing labels on a tape. The printing device has a display and input means for inputting characters to be printed by the printing device. Using the input means, a cursor on the display can be controlled. The printing device has a label memory which comprises a storage portion having a plurality of storage sections. The display is operable to display a plurality of label access elements each of which represents a respective storage section in the storage portion of the memory. The cursor is used to access a selected storage section of the memory associated with the label access element identified by the cursor position. A method of storage label data in a label memory using this principle is also described.

Storage of labels in a printing device

A printing device for printing labels that includes a display; a user input means for inputting an image to be printed by the printing device and for selecting a required label length; and a control means operable to determine the length of the image input via the user input means, and if 10 the length of the image input is greater than the required label length, the control means is arranged to cause the display to display an error message indicating the difference between the length of the image and the required label length, which may be the minimum length of the inputted image, the difference between a preselected length and the minimum length of the inputted image, or both.

Printing device

A printing device comprising user input means having function setting means for selectively instigating a background text state and an edit state and character selection means for selecting characters or symbols to be printed, a label memory for holding label data in the form of characters or symbols selected as background text and characters or symbols selected as foreground text, a printing mechanism for printing images based on said label data and a controller responsive to the user input means and the label data to control the printing mechanism, wherein the controller is operable to generate print data for the printing mechanism to print said selected background characters or symbols as grey shaded background.

The present invention relates to a label printing apparatus for printing image data onto a tape. The label printing apparatus has a memory for storing image data to be printed onto the tape, a print head for recording the image data dot wise onto the tape in subsequent printing cycles, a platen for conveying the recording medium relative to the print head and means for determining the number of dots to be activated in each printing cycle. In order to obtain high print quality, a speed adjuster is provided to control the speed of the platen in response to the number of image data stored in the memory and the number of dots to be activated in the present printing cycle. The present invention also relates to a method for controlling the platen and the print head to avoid misalignment of subsequent printing lines, when the platen must stop due to lack of data in the memory.
