The present invention relates to a polyester resin for extrusion blow molded containers comprising a branched copolymer and fumed silica to improve the aged drop performance said branched copolyester is made from the reaction of purified terephthalic acid or its dimethyl ester, ethylene glycol, bifunctional diacid other than terephthalic acid, diol other than ethylene glycol, and multifunctional compound having a least 3 carboxyl groups, hydroxyl groups and/or ester forming groups thereof, said fumed silica has a particle size of 0.1 to 5 microns and is present at about 100 ppm to about 2,500 ppm based on the weight of said copolyester.

Polyester composition for extrusion blow molded containers with improved aging and drop performance

The present invention describes both a stretch-blow-molded opaque polyester container and a method of making it. The container, typically a beverage bottle has less than 15% transmission of visible light (500 nm) through a 0.4 millimeter wall thickness. It contains from about 0.1 to about 5 wt. % of said opacifying material. The opacifying material may be any material compatible with polyester resin. The method of making the container includes introducing the opacifying material during polymerization, or prepared as a master batch for mixing with the polymer. Selection of certain opacifying materials can also result in favorable reheat properties, gas permeation-barrier improvements, and when the resin contains both opacifying material and oxygen scavenger there can be a synergistic effect with respect to COpermeation.

Opaque polyester containers

Polyester compositions for use in injection stretch blow molded articles having intrinsic viscosities in the range from about 0.65 to about 0.78 dl/g, and carboxyl end group concentrations of about 47 mmole/kg or more are provided. Stretch blow molded articles formed from these polyester compositions and methods to produce these articles are also described.

Polyester composition for improved stress crack resistance in polyester articles

A process is described for false twist texturing polyester filament yarn at greatly enhanced speeds while inserting comparable twist levels and obtaining comparable yarn bulk without increasing yarn heat setting lengths. The process is particularly adopted to the utilization of partially oriented yarns in a draw texturing operation utilizing friction twisting as the means for simultaneously drawing and heat setting the yarn in a twisted state.
