A modular cooling system comprising a plurality of chiller modules and a coolant circuit with flow paths having parts in each of the plurality of chiller modules. The coolant circuit cools a working fluid to meet a cooling demand, and the working fluid can be cooled in heat exchange with the heat absorbing heat exchangers of the free cooling circuits and heat exchange with the heat absorbing heat exchangers of the refrigeration circuits. The flow paths of the coolant circuit connect to the heat absorbing heat exchangers of the free cooling circuits in parallel and connect to the heat absorbing heat exchangers of the refrigeration circuits in series. The coolant circuit flow paths split along parallel flows through the heat absorbing heat exchangers of the free cooling circuits before recombining to flow sequentially in a combined flow path through the heat absorbing heat exchangers of the refrigeration circuits.

Modular cooling system

An air-cooled chiller () includes a compressor (); a cooler (); a heat recovery heat exchanger (), wherein the heat recovery heat exchanger is connected between an output of () the compressor and an input header () of an air heat exchanger (). A solenoid valve () is located in an input header () of the air heat exchanger to divide the input header into a first portion () and a second portion (). A controller () is configured to control the solenoid valve (). A second valve () is located in the output header () to divide the output header into a first portion () and a second portion (). There is also provided a method of operating the air-cooled chiller and a method of retrofitting an existing serial-concept air cooled chiller, to provide the present air-cooled chiller.

Air-cooled chiller with heat recovery system

A refrigeration system includes at least one refrigeration circuit. The refrigeration circuitincludes a compressor, a first heat rejecting heat exchanger, a second heat rejecting heat exchanger, an expansion valveand a heat absorbing heat exchanger. The refrigeration circuitfurther includes a heat recovery control valvefor controlling flow of the compressed refrigerant fluid between the first heat rejecting heat exchanger and the second heat rejecting heat exchanger. The first heat rejecting heat exchangeris for receiving compressed refrigerant fluid from the compressorand exchanging heat between the compressed refrigerant fluid and a second fluid to increase the temperature of the second fluid. The second heat rejecting heat exchangeris for receiving the compressed refrigerant fluid and exchanging heat with ambient air to cool the compressed refrigerant fluid.
