Propellant compositions with nitrocellulose and a polymer

A combustion inhibiting composition for use in conjunction with a solid, gas-generating charge, the composition comprising an organic polymeric material containing an oxygen-containing organic filler compatible with said polymeric material, the oxygen to carbon atom ratio of the composition being at least 1:3.

Multiple base propellant with combustion inhibitor

A double base propellant charge is primed with a dimethyl siloxane resin before application of a silicone elastomer inhibitor to the primed surface. There may be a barrier coating, preferably of a polyvinyl acetal resin, between the double base material and the primer.

Combustion inhibited rocket propellants

A method of inhibiting combustion of some of the surfaces of a solid propellant charge for or in a rocket motor comprising bonding to said surfaces an elastomeric compound resistant to permeation by combustible components of the charge, and bonding a combustion inhibiting cellulosic derivative to the elastomeric compound, the cellulosic derivative being spaced from said surfaces by the elastomeric compound. The invention also relates to a rocket motor provided with a solid propellant charge inhibited in accordance with the method.

A method of suppressing unstable burning in a solid propellant rocket motor comprising combusting a silicone elastomer with burning of the solid propellant to produce a continuous stream of small silica particles which suppress instability.
