Braces having elastic portions that can be made effectively inelastic, based on a level of comfort or support desired by a user, via an inelastic tightening mechanism are disclosed. Some contemplated braces have lumbar supports that are at made at least in part of an elastic material, and inelastic tightening systems that extend across the elastic material and can decrease the effective elasticity of the elastic material to provide greater support.

Brace having elastic and inelastic portions

A brace comprises a belt and removably attachable vertical strut(s). Each vertical strut can comprise one or more of a strut(s), thoracic pad(s), hip pad(s), lumbar support pad(s), chest support pad(s), de-rotation pad(s), or any other component suitable to assist or restrict movement of a wearer's body, reduce or apply a force to a wearer's body, correct the shape of a wearer's body, reduce pain, or provide support to a wearer's body. It is contemplated that each component can be removable or adjustable from a vertical strut or belt.

Scoliosis brace

A back brace is designed to custom fit a wearer in a multitude of different configurations. First, the back brace could have a lumbar support that is split into upper and lower sections that are connected to a flexible joint, allowing the lumbar support to bend towards the spine of the user. The lumbar support is also generally split into left and right sections that are drawn towards one another while the joint bends towards the lumbar curve. This allows the back brace to conform to the lumbar curve of the wearer as a custom fit. Second, the brace could have optional extenders that alter the support length, width, and height of lumbar and lateral supports about the wearer. Third, the brace could have reinforcement support mechanisms that alter the rigidity of various lumbar and lateral supports about the wearer.

Highly adjustable lumbar brace

An adjustable support for a pneumatic orthosis is provided. The adjustable support includes an inflatable member and a pod that acts diffuse, concentrate, localize or otherwise direct a force applied to a wearer's body via the inflatable member. Contemplated adjustable supports can be adjustably coupled to any suitable brace panel such that the apex of the inflatable member is movable relative to a midpoint of the panel of the brace as desired.

Pneumatic orthosis

Neck braces having versatile rear braces are provided. Some rear braces comprise various components including a rear panel having notches, a height adjustment mechanism, and at least one occipital lobe support. Each component can be movably attached to another component via a fastener (e.g., ball snap, snap connector, etc.), thereby allowing one component to rotate, tilt or otherwise move in relation to the other component.

Cervical collar spinal height adjustment system

The double pull body brace comprises a one-piece panel which engages around the torso and overlaps at the front. At the overlap, it is attached to itself by means of a hook-and-loop fastener so that a wide range of adjustment is possible. In the back, spaced cord guides are mounted on said panel. Each cord guide carries a plurality of cord guide lobes. An upper cord is engaged around the upper cord guide lobes, and a lower cord is engaged around the lower cord guide lobes. These cords are separately attached to pull tabs. When donned, the user pulls on the pull tabs to separately adjust upper and lower closure tension of the body brace. When in correct adjustment, the pull tabs are attached in place by hook-and-loop fasteners.

Double pull body brace

A brace comprises one or more panels having an aperture or slit that is at least partially defined by a first portion and a second portion. Each panel can couple with a lateral support that is configured to wrap around a portion of a wearer's body. One or both of the first and second portions can comprise an arc that is configured to prevent a twisting of the panel when the brace is tightened around a wearer. One or both of the first and second portions can additionally or alternatively comprise a plurality of protrusions configured to interact with a portion of a lateral support to thereby assist in maintaining a vertical position of the lateral support with respect to the panel.

Lower spine brace

An improved orthotic has a strap that secures the orthotic to a wearer, and comprises a tension indicator coupled to the strap. The tension indicator includes a first element disposed to produce a tactile signal when a tension in the strap reaches a threshold that is less than a permanent deformation threshold.

A posture correction brace for a person has a tightening mechanism that allows a user to pull a cord to pull down on the back of a pair of shoulder straps, thereby pulling the shoulders back to correct the person's posture. The front ends of the shoulder straps are typically also attached to the back of the wearer, to help the posture correction brace pull the shoulders back as the shoulder straps tighten.
