The present invention relates to a connector assembly comprising a connector unit mounted in a housing. The connector unit has a mounting portion, at least one electrical terminal and a body portion having a locking tab. The housing has a first longitudinal axis Xand the body portion has a second longitudinal axis X. The first longitudinal axis Xand the second longitudinal axis Xare offset from each other to enable the tip of the locking tab to be radially inset. An axial press tool can be used to mount the connector unit mechanically in the housing. The present invention also relates to a method of assembling a connector assembly.

Connector assembly and method of manufacturing same

A sensor arrangement and a method for its use for detecting the proximity of a ferrous target, the sensor arrangement comprising a sensor body including a magnetic field source and a Hall effect device, wherein the magnetic field source is an electromagnetic solenoid. The invention has particularly utility, but is not so limited, to the field of fuel injection pumps in which it is necessary to determine the volume of fuel that is delivered to the cylinders of the engine without affecting the operation of the engine.

Sensor arrangement

The invention provides a method for determining the angular position of a pump shaft relative to a pump body. The method comprises: providing the pump shaft with a first locating feature; providing the pump shaft with a second locating feature; providing a measurement device provided with a measurement member; engaging the measurement member with the first locating feature and determining a first distance between the first locating feature and a reference feature provided on the measurement device; engaging the measurement member with the second locating feature and determining a second distance between the second locating feature and a reference feature provided on the measurement device; and determining the difference between the first and second distances to provide an indication of the angular position of the pump shaft relative to the pump body. The invention also provides apparatus suitable for performing the above method.

Measurement device

A pressurisation pump is provided comprising a first plunger and a second plunger, each plunger being reciprocable within a respective plunger bore defined by a housing, wherein the first and second plungers together with the bores define, at least in part, a pumping volume. The pump also includes an inlet port and an outlet port. An end of the first plunger is arranged to cover the inlet port during a pump delivery stage in which fluid is displaced from the pumping volume and an end of the second plunger is arranged to cover the outlet port during a pump fill stage in which fuel is drawn into the pumping volume. The end of the first plunger and the end of the second plunger are arranged to cover the inlet port and the outlet port respectively during a pump transfer stage during which the pumping volume is maintained.

Cam-driven fluid pump

A governor for use in an engine provided with an overspeed protection device arranged to trip in the event that engine speed exceeds a predetermined speed. The governor comprises a centrifugal weight mechanism comprising at least one weight coupled to an angularly adjustable metering valve member through a lever member, the metering valve member being operable to control the level of fuelling of the associated engine depending on engine speed. The governor further comprises a damping arrangement associated with the lever member which is arranged to damp oscillatory movement of the lever member, in use, and a prevention arrangement for preventing the overspeed protection device associated with the engine tripping upon engine start up.

Governor

A method of forming a recess in a body having a surface of substantially cylindrical form utilises a grinding wheel having a first axis in the form of a drive axis, and a circumferential surface concave to a second axis that is substantially orthogonal to the first axis. The grinding wheel also includes first and second opposing radial surfaces of substantially planar form. At least a portion of the circumferential surface of the grinding wheel is engaged with an outer surface of the body and the grinding wheel is rotated about the drive axis to cause a region of the body to be ground, thereby to define a recess in the body having a periphery including at least two substantially square corners and at least one pair of substantially parallel facing edges. The method is conveniently used to provide an opening or port of at least partially square or rectangular form in a cylindrical body such as a metering valve.

Method of forming a recess in a body

A metering valve arrangement comprises a metering valve member which is angularly adjustable within a metering valve bore provided in a metering valve housing and an adjustment arrangement for adjusting the axial position of the metering valve member within the metering valve bore. The metering valve arrangement includes a first opening provided in the metering valve member which is registerable with a first outlet provided in the metering valve housing to control a first rate of flow of fluid through the first outlet depending on the angular position of the metering valve member within the bore, and a second opening provided in the metering valve member which is registerable with a second outlet provided in the metering valve housing to control a second rate of flow of fluid through the second outlet. The first and second outlets and the first and second openings are shaped and configured to ensure the first rate of flow of fluid maintains a substantially constant relationship to the second rate of flow of fluid for any axial position of the metering valve member within the metering valve bore. The metering valve arrangement is particularly suitable for use in an advance arrangement for adjusting the timing of fuel delivery by a pump, in which the first outlet of the metering valve arrangement communicates with a low pressure drain and a first rate of flow of fuel through the first outlet determines fuel pressure within a light load control chamber of the advance arrangement, and wherein the second outlet of the metering valve arrangement communicates with the pump and a second rate of flow of fuel through the second outlet determines the pressure of fuel delivered to the pump.

Metering valve arrangement

A governor comprising a centrifugal weight mechanism coupled to an angularly adjustable metering valve member and an adjuster for adjusting the axial position of the meeting valve member to permit droop control.

A governor for use in an engine, the governor including a drive shaft and a plurality of weights carried by the drive shaft. The weights are rotatable with the drive shaft and are moveable relative to the drive shaft. A lever is moveable in response to movement of the weights, the lever being moveable against the action of a return biasing arrangement. The governor further includes a further arrangement for holding at least one of the weights against movement so as to permit adjustment of the operating speed of the governor.

A governor comprising a metering valve member slidable within a bore to control the degree by which an outlet is obscured, the valve member and bore together defining first and second chambers. The governor also comprises a restricted flow passage whereby fuel can flow from the first chamber to the second chamber at a restricted rate, and a control valve controlling communication between the second chamber and a low pressure reservoir. The control valve is adjustable by means of a centrifugal weight mechanism.
