A stimulation device includes an adapter component to increase the usability of the stimulation device. The adapter may be a bipolar adapter arranged to connect to the housing of the stimulation device. The adapter may include a clip having a first channel configured to receive an operative element therein and a second channel having a return operative element therein. The return operative element is in electrical communication with an electrical circuit of said stimulation control device. Alternatively, the adapter may be a percutaneous adapter comprising a connector configured to connect to an operative element of a stimulation device and a lead wire connected to the connector. A needle may be connected to the lead wire to deliver a electrical stimulation signal to a target tissue located beneath the skin of a subject patient.

The present technology provides a medical stimulation system having a clinical programmer configured to operate on a computational and memory device having a wireless communication device. The technology also provides a neurostimulator configured to wirelessly communicate with the clinical programmer. The neurostimulator also includes a pulse generator operatively coupled with an electrode by a lead. The pulse generator is configured to transmit an electrical signal comprising a repeating succession of non-regular pulse trains. Each pulse train includes a plurality of pulses having non-regular, non-random, differing inter-pulse intervals therebetween. The pulse trains repeat in succession to treat a neurological condition. Further, the pulse trains are initiated by instructions communicated by the clinical programmer.

An external controller includes circuitry adapted for wireless telemetry and a charging coil for generating the radio frequency magnetic field to transcutaneously recharge a rechargeable battery in the pulse generator. Using wireless telemetry, the pulse generator is adapted to transmit status information back to the external controller to allow the external controller to automatically adjust up or down the magnitude of the radio frequency magnetic field and/or to instruct a user to reposition the charging coil, the status information adapted to allow optimal recharging of the pulse generator rechargeable battery.

Implantable pulse generator systems and methods for providing functional and/or therapeutic stimulation of muscles and/or nerves and/or central nervous system tissue

Provided is a portable controller and associated method that provides a patient or caregiver the ability to recharge and alter the parameters of an implanted medical device, while allowing the patient substantially unobstructed mobility. To enable mobility, the controller may be worn on a belt or clothing. The controller also allows the patient to turn device stimulation on and off, check battery status, and to vary stimulation parameters within ranges that may be predefined and programmed by a clinician. The controller communicates with the medical device to retrieve information and make parameter adjustments using wireless telemetry, and it can send and receive information from several feet away from the implanted medical device. Charging of a battery contained in the implanted medical device is achieved via an inductive radio frequency link using a charge coil placed in close proximity to the medical device.

The stimulation system includes a pulse generator including a housing sized and configured for implantation in subcutaneous tissue, circuitry carried within the housing, the circuitry operable for generating electrical stimulation pulses, and a rechargeable battery coupled to the circuitry and carried within the housing, the rechargeable battery including a battery capacity. The circuitry is adapted to suspend the generation of electrical stimulation pulses at a first remaining battery capacity, and the circuitry is adapted to enter a dormant mode at a second remaining battery capacity. The first battery remaining capacity may be greater than or equal to the second remaining battery capacity. At the second remaining battery capacity, only a safety margin battery capacity remains.
