A system includes a radio configured to transmit and receive voice transmissions to and from air traffic control (ATC), the radio installed onboard an aircraft. The system includes a processor communicatively coupled to the radio and installed onboard the aircraft. The processor is configured to: receive an ATC voice command via the radio; transcribe the ATC voice command into an ATC command; and when the ATC command includes an aircraft identification associated with the aircraft, categorize the ATC command into components, each of the components being categorized based on a criticality level associated with said component, wherein the criticality level is or is associated with a required accuracy confidence level of transcribed speech for a given component.

Autonomous air traffic control interaction

A system and method are disclosed for design of a suite of multispectral (MS) sensors and processing of enhanced data streams produced by the sensors for autonomous aircraft flight. The onboard suite of MS sensors is specifically configured to sense and use a MS variety of sensor-tuned objects, either strategically placed objects and/or surveyed and sensor significant existing objects to determine a position and verify position accuracy. The received MS sensor data enables an autonomous aircraft object identification and positioning system to correlate MS sensor data output with a-priori information stored onboard to determine and verify position and trajectory of the autonomous aircraft. Once position and trajectory are known, the object identification and positioning system commands the autonomous aircraft flight management system and autopilot control of the autonomous aircraft.

A system and method are disclosed for design of a suite of multispectral (MS) sensors and processing of enhanced data streams produced by the sensors for autonomous aircraft flight. The suite of MS sensors is specifically configured to produce data streams for processing by an autonomous aircraft object identification and positioning system processor. Multiple, diverse MS sensors image naturally occurring, or artificial features (towers buildings etc.) and produce data streams containing details which are routinely processed by the object identification and positioning system yet would be unrecognizable to a human pilot. The object identification and positioning system correlates MS sensor output with a-priori information stored onboard to determine position and trajectory of the autonomous aircraft. Once position and trajectory are known, the object identification and positioning system sends the data to the autonomous aircraft flight management system for autopilot control of the autonomous aircraft.

A system and method operate to leverage high assurance positioning systems to determine a hybrid deviation from an expected position, altitude, and path to generate a lateral and vertical signal indicating deviation from a desired position. As a filtered or alternative to conventional precision landing systems, the hybrid positioning system receives sensor data from a plurality of sensors and compares the received sensor data to known values to determine a deviation of position and trajectory. Extending the capability of existing auto-land systems, relative-to-runway sensors and/or filtered high assurance hybrid solutions are employed as an alternative to conventional precision landing systems. The sensors provide position data that is compared to an expected position and path to provide deviations in lateral, vertical, and speed augmenting traditional RF-based systems. The result includes a system capability for all weather landing leveraging traditional flight control systems to extend capabilities at all airports.

An on aircraft computer system records and analyzes biometric data to identify indicia of impaired performance, such as pilot fatigue, attention tunneling, or cognitive overload. Such impairment is identified by alterations in pilot gaze or eye movement, head movement, facial parameters, eye lid position, heart rate, breathing, or brain wave patterns. Appropriate corrective action is applied based on the type of impaired performance identified, including altering a level of automation, contacting a ground dispatcher or ground pilot, or contacting a co-pilot or other crew member. Biometric data is continuously logged and correlated with data from other avionics systems to refine formulas relating biometric data to states of alertness and crew rest procedures.

Background displays and foreground multifunction windows generated by the display system house applications and display relevant avionics data. The multifunction windows can be resized or repositioned on the display surface using finger contacts and gestures. Format selector panels include control selectors corresponding to the multifunction windows, the control selectors responsive to finger contact with the format selector panels or the corresponding multifunction windows. Keyboard panels provide touch-sensitive radio and communications controls as well as an alphanumeric keyboard responsive to finger contact with text fields generated by the display.

The present invention is a flight deck situational awareness communication system for providing integrated controller to pilot data link communication (CPDLC) message function for an aircraft. The system includes a memory configured for receiving and storing a CPDLC message from a communicatively coupled remote CPDLC communication system. The flight deck system further includes a processor. The processor is communicatively coupled with the memory and configured for receiving the CPDLC message stored in the memory. The processor is further configured for generating an image including a depiction of the content of the received CPDLC message overlaid onto an application depiction. The processor is communicatively coupled with a display and provides the image to the display. The display is configured for receiving and displaying the image.

Integrating information from controller to pilot data link communication (CPDLC) messages

A system and method are provided for integrating voice communication systems with voice recognition devices or units and myriad other data sources to provide a harmonization between intended aircraft operations and actual aircraft operations, including logical components to provide a mechanism to flag certain alert communications that signal the initiation of particular response scenarios based on detected terms and track initiation of pre-planned processes to address specific events that are signaled through the use of the detected terms. Information from myriad data sources is collected and integrated to provide an indication of intended operations for an aircraft. A data comparison device compares the indicated real-time intended operations of the aircraft with actual monitored operations of the aircraft to discern unacceptable deviations. Data sources include operator-generated data transmissions, voice transcriptions, automated voice recognized information, measurable operations of the aircraft, and prescribed operating guidance, directives and parameters for the aircraft.
