A tunable spectrometer configured to microsample minute samples of dimension on the order of 10 &mgr;m or less. A tunable optical parametric oscillator laser is used to produce a sampling beam and a reference beam for measuring the absorption of the samples.

Apparatus and method for analyzing microscopic samples based on optical parametric oscillation

A crystal used for non-linear conversion of optical frequencies. Heating in the crystal can cause effects on the angle matching. A number of multiple crystals are used, with the first crystal forming a partial conversion, and subsequent crystals compensating for the heating effect in the first crystals.

Tandem optical frequency mixer

An optical parametric oscillator which operates with uncoated optics and a non-linear crystal. The pulse length is long relative to the cavity length, and hence the pump is still operating when the crystal flouresces. The fresnel reflection from the uncoated optics is sufficient to maintain the flouresence. Another aspect attenuates one of the idler and signal beams within the cavity, to allow the other one to emerge more dominant.
