A system and method is provided in which a welding system modulates the heat input into a weld joint during welding by changing between a high heat input welding waveform and a low heat input welding waveform. The system can utilize detected weld joint geometry and thickness to vary the utilization of the high heat and low heat waveform portions to change the weld bead profile during welding. Additionally, the wire feed speed is changed with the changes between the high heat input and low heat input portions of the welding waveform.

Apparatus and method for modulating heat input during welding

An accessible work cell is provided. In one embodiment, the accessible work cell a plurality of walls defining at least one work zone and at least one pair of sliding doors that provides access to the work zone. The pair of sliding doors includes an upper sliding door and a lower sliding door. The first upper sliding door is operatively connected to the lower sliding door such that movement of the upper sliding door in a first direction will cause the lower sliding door to move in a second direction opposite to the first direction.

Accessible work cell

An embodiment of a robotic welding apparatus comprises a robot having a welding torch and a base, where the base rotates about an axis of rotation. The embodiment further comprises an indexing table including a plurality of workpiece holding positions, where the indexing table is fixedly connected to the base substantially at a center position of the indexing table, and where the indexing table rotates about the axis of rotation.

Robot positioner

A first embodiment of the present application is directed to a method and system used to weld a cylindrical workpiece. A substantially cylindrical workpiece is loaded into a workpiece support, and a robotic welding arm is positioned located at a start position. A value representing a size of the cylindrical workpiece is input into a robot controller via a system interface. Inputting of the size value to the robotic interface obtains a control program. Operation of the obtained control program is initiated by an operator, causing the robot arm to move a preprogrammed distance toward a work surface of the workpiece. Then a welding process is performed by the welder carried on the robot arm in accordance with the control program. The process includes initiating operation of the welder, and moving the welder in a pattern appropriate for the welding operation. The workpiece and welder are moved relative to each other so as to perform the welding process as determined by the control program.
