A negative electrode for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery provides a means for improving output characteristics at a high rate. The negative electrode has a negative electrode active material layer having a thickness of 150 to 1500 &#x3bc;m formed on a surface of a current collector. In addition, the negative electrode active material layer includes coated negative electrode active material particles in which at least a part of a surface of a negative electrode active material is coated with a coating agent containing a coating resin and a conductive aid. Furthermore, a porosity of the negative electrode active material layer is 39.0% to 60.0% and a density of the negative electrode active material layer is 0.60 to 1.20 g/cm.

Negative electrode for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

The bipolar secondary battery includes a power generation element including unit power generation elements stacked together and including bipolar electrodes stacked via separators, and current collecting plates arranged at both ends of the power generation element in the stacked direction of the unit power generation elements so as to be in contact with the power generation element, wherein the current collecting plates each include an electrically conductive layer and a resin film, the electrically conductive layer being formed on the resin film having a thermal shrinkage percentage of 2% or greater at a temperature of 150&#xb0; C., and the separators have a higher thermal shrinkage start temperature than the resin films.

Bipolar secondary battery

A secondary battery is provided with a power generation element, an electroconductive member, an external short circuit, a current detector and an external discharge safety circuit. The power generation element has a unit cell layer that includes a positive electrode, a separator and a negative electrode stacked in that order. The electroconductive member is disposed on one outward side of the power generation element with an insulation member interposed therebetween. A lead wire connects the electroconductive member with the negative electrode tab. The current detector detects whether or not current is flowing to the lead wire. The external discharge safety circuit is provided to short-circuits a path between the positive electrode tab and the negative electrode tab outside the power generation element while current detector detects a current.

Secondary battery and secondary battery control method

A short circuit detection device has a voltage sensor and a control unit. The voltage sensor detects a voltage of a secondary battery. The control unit determines whether a first voltage value of the voltage of the secondary battery discharging to a load is below a threshold value. Upon determining the first voltage value is below the threshold value, the control unit adjusts the load to reduce the current that flows from the secondary battery to the load. The control unit then determines whether a second voltage value of the voltage of the secondary battery after the adjustment of the load is less than the first voltage value. Upon determining the second voltage value is less than the first voltage value, control unit recognizes that an internal short circuit of the secondary battery has occurred.

Short circuit detection device

A current collector for a battery includes: a layer () formed from an electrically conductive material and at least one of (a) a polymer compound having an alicyclic structure, (b) a saturated hydrocarbon polymer compound having a hydroxyl group, (c) a phenoxy resin and an epoxy resin, and (d) an amine having an amine equivalent of 120 g/eq or less and an epoxy resin; a layer () which is formed on at least one surface of the layer (); and a layer () formed from an electrically conductive material. The current collector for a battery has stability to an equilibrium potential environment in a negative electrode, a low electric resistance, a blocking property to solvent in electrolytic solution, and a blocking property to a component in an electrolyte. In addition, the current collector for a battery has a high capacity retention rate, and battery durability is improved.

A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes: a negative electrode active material represented by the Formula (1)=&#x3b1; (Si material)+&#x3b2; (carbon material), wherein the Si material is one or more kinds selected from the group consisting of SiOthat is a mixture of amorphous SiOparticles and Si particles and a Si-containing alloy; &#x3b1; and &#x3b2; represent % by mass of each component in the layer; and 80&#x2264;&#x3b1;+&#x3b2;&#x2264;98, 0.1&#x2264;&#x3b1;&#x2264;40, and 58&#x2264;&#x3b2;&#x2264;97.9 are satisfied, and a difference between the maximum value and the minimum value of an area proportion (%) of a binder in an area of the field of view of each image of cross-sections of the layer in a case where a plurality of arbitrary places is selected in a plane of the negative electrode active material layer is within 10%.

Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery has the internal resistance of 10 m&#x3a9;/Ah or less (SOC of 50%) and has a power generating element containing the following: a positive electrode obtained by forming, on the surface of a positive electrode current collector, a positive electrode active substance layer containing a positive electrode active substance; a negative electrode obtained by forming, on the surface of a negative electrode current collector, a negative electrode active substance layer containing a negative electrode active substance; and a separator. The positive electrode active substance is made to contain a spinel type lithium manganese composite oxide and a lithium nickel-based composite oxide, and the mixing ratio of the lithium nickel-based composite oxide is 50 to 70% by weight relative to the total 100% by weight of the spinel type lithium manganese composite oxide and the lithium nickel-based composite oxide.

[Object] Provided is a means for improving cycle characteristics by suppressing electrode deterioration resulting from non-uniformity of voltage across an electrode plane in a high-capacity and large-area non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery that includes lithium nickel-based composite oxide as a positive electrode active substance. An electrolytic solution capable of suppressing the battery swollenness and improving the battery characteristics such as the charge and discharge efficiency and a battery using it are provided. A cathode () and an anode () are layered with an electrolyte layer () in between. The electrolyte layer () is gelatinous, containing the electrolytic solution and a polymer compound. The electrolytic solution contains a compound having proton scavenging capacity such as hexamethylenetetramine and hexaethylenetetramine. Thereby, a free acid such as hydrofluoric acid is scavenged, and decomposition reaction of the electrolytic solution or the like is prevented.

Electrolytic solution and battery

An anode and a battery, which have a high capacity and can improve battery characteristics such as large current discharge characteristics and low temperature discharge characteristics are provided. An anode has an anode current collector and an anode active material layer provided on the anode current collector. The density of the anode active material layer is in the range from 1.5 g/cmto 1.8 g/cm. Further, the anode active material layer contains a granulated graphite material which is obtained by granulating a flat graphite particle in nodular shape and mesocarbon microbeads. Thereby, the granulated graphite material is prevented from being destroyed, and diffusion path of lithium ions is secured.
