A device with water drainage for a speaker using a three-dimensional canopy shaped retainer and hydrophobic mesh is provided. The device includes a three-dimensional (3D) retainer having a canopy shape with an outer side and an inner side, the outer side having a generally convex shape and the inner side having a generally concave shape, the 3D retainer comprising apertures therethrough. The device further includes a hydrophobic mesh located at least at the apertures at the outer side of the 3D retainer, the hydrophobic mesh being air-permeable.

A device with linear slots for water drainage is provided. The device comprises: a bezel covering a cavity and a microphone/speaker mounted therein, the bezel having outer and inner faces, the inner face facing the cavity; linear slots through the bezel between the faces, the linear slots being obliquely angled relative to an upright axis of the bezel; linear slats separating the linear slots at the bezel and forming sides thereof having dimensions selected to promote formation of water droplets thereon of a size which overcome water surface tension and flow out of the linear slots when the bezel is exposed to one or more of mist, rain, water and humidity; and one or more recesses at the inner face, adjacent to the linear slots, the one or more recesses to collect water from the water droplets as the water flows out of the linear slots.

The device comprises: a housing having a cavity; a speaker mounted in the cavity; a hydrophobic mesh over at least a portion of the cavity, the hydrophobic mesh being air-permeable; a hydrophilic grill adjacent the hydrophobic mesh at a speaker-facing side of the hydrophilic grill, the hydrophilic grill comprising apertures therethrough, the hydrophobic mesh located at least at the apertures; and a bezel covering the hydrophilic grill, one or more of the housing and the bezel including drainage features.

A method and apparatus for processing audio signals. One system includes a communication device including a transceiver configured to send and receive audio data, and a microphone configured to convert sound waves to a first audio signal. A speaker is configured to convert received electrical signals to an acoustic output and is configured to convert sound waves to a second audio signal. An electronic processor connected to the microphone and the speaker is configured to receive the first audio signal from the microphone, receive the second audio signal from the speaker, determine a correlation value between the first audio signal and the second audio signal, and compare the correlation value to a correlation threshold. In response to the correlation value being below the correlation threshold, the electronic processor generates an output signal based on the first audio signal and the second audio signal, and transmits the output signal.

Speaker-as-microphone for wind noise reduction

Methods and systems for verification of an environmental seal provided by an encapsulant coating of a bottom-ported MEMS microphone package. A purposeful acoustic leak is provided on an upper surface of a package housing (in the form of an additional acoustic port) and a sealing material is applied to an outer surface of the package housing. A properly applied encapsulant coating will completely seal the additional acoustic port on the upper surface of the package housing. However, the placement of the additional acoustic port on the upper surface of the package housing will have a significant, detectable effect on the frequency response of the microphone if it is not completely sealed by the encapsulant coating. Accordingly, the environmental seal provided by the encapsulant coating is verified by confirming, based on the acoustic frequency response testing, that the encapsulant coating has effectively sealed the additional acoustic port on the upper surface of the package housing.

A grille configured for shielding a microphone cavity. The grille includes a first side. The first side includes a first plurality of parallel slats defining a first plurality of channels extending along a first direction. The grille includes a second side opposite the first side. The second side includes a second plurality of parallel slats defining a second plurality of channels extending along a second direction at a first angle relative to the first direction. The first plurality of parallel slats and the second plurality of parallel slats define a lattice having a plurality of openings extending through the grille. The openings are configured to diffuse air moving across the lattice. The channels and slats are configured to induce capillary action on water coming in contact with the lattice to drain water from the openings and the microphone cavity.
