The antimicrobial compound, bis(carbomethoxymethyl) adipate is disclosed. It was prepared by condensing the methyl ester of glycolic acid and the acid chloride of adipic acid. Tests for antimicrobial activity exhibit potent antimicrobial activity against molds, yeasts, and gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Antimicrobial compound bis (carbomethoxymethyl) adipate

A process for using glycolic acid derivatives to control antimicrobial activity is disclosed. The process comprises: Contacting a microbe with an antimicrobial composition containing, as its active ingredient, a member selected from the group consisting of N,N-bis(pelargonoyloxyethyl)pelargonoyloxyacetamide, N,N-bis(lauroyloxyethyl)lauroyloxyacetamide, N,N-bis (oleoyloxyethyl)oleoyloxyacetamide, N,N-bis(trimethylacetyloxyethyl)trimethylacetylacetamide, carboethoxymethyl hydrocinnamate, and bis(carbomethoxymethyl) adipate.

Process for controlling antimicrobial activity using glycolic acid

Esters and mixed ester-amides derived from glycolic acid by substitution at the hydroxyl and carboxyl functions were prepared by conventional procedures and tested for antimicrobial activity. All of the compounds tested showed some inhibition against four microorganisms under the test conditions, and some of them had potent activity. These new compounds have properties which make it possible for them to be used as biostatic agents in commercial products.

Antimicrobial glycolic acid derivatives

Procedures are described for obtaining about 80% of the high-grade protein in pearl millet grain as a concentrate. These procedures involve extraction of lipid-free whole millet flour with a combination of 70% aqueous isopropyl alcohol, aqueoussodium hydroxide, and dilute mineral acid to give three protein-rich fractions, which can be combined for optimum use as a protein concentrate.

Protein concentrate from high-protein pearl millet

This invention relates to addition products of dialkylphosphorodithioic acid, hexachlorocyclopentadiene, or bromotrichloromethane to unsaturated or epoxy fatty acid amides and esters. These products are useful as extreme pressure lubricants and additives.

Fatty acid-derived lubricants and additives

Acetylthio amides and esters were prepared by the free radical addition of thiolacetic acid to the terminal and nonterminal double bonds of N-substituted fatty amides and fatty esters. The free radical additions of the thiolacetic acid to the unsaturated compounds were initiated by irradiation using cobalt-60. The process using irradiation with cobalt-60 was also used to bring about the addition of bromotrichloromethane to N-substituted fatty amides and fatty esters to produce halogen-containing amides and esters. These new sulfur or halogen-containing compounds were found to have antimicrobial activity and to possess properties making them useful as antimicrobial agents.

Antimicrobial fatty acid derivatives

New mixed esters of diols having one hydroxyl group esterified with benzoic acid and the other esterified with various saturated or unsaturated aliphatic acids or aromatic acids other than benzoic are found to have antimicrobial activity against several pathogenic microorganisms, and to have properties making them useful as antimicrobial agents.

Antimicrobial esters of allphatic diols

Sulfur-containing long chain fatty ester-amides have been prepared by the addition of mercaptoacetic acid to the terminal and nonterminal double bonds of unsaturated amides followed by esterification of the carboxyl group with the appropriate alcohol. These compounds exhibit antimicrobial activity and have properties making them useful as antimicrobial agents.
