One or more first sensors may be configured to sense seismic signals and one or more second sensors may be configured to sense electromagnetic crosstalk signals. The second sensors are not responsive to the seismic signals. The data from the first and second sensors may be recorded as first data and second data, respectively. The first data may be modified based on the second data to remove the electromagnetic crosstalk noise form the seismic data.

Removing electromagnetic crosstalk noise from seismic data

Calibration based on twist and orientation for towed object can include determining an amount of twist as a function of length of a portion of a towed object based on output of tilt sensors in the portion of the towed object and a model that describes the twist along the portion of the towed object. An orientation of a seismic sensor can be determined based on the determined amount of twist and a position of the seismic sensor along a length of the portion of the towed object. The seismic sensor can be calibrated based on the orientation.

Managing movement of data packets along a geophysical sensor cable. At least some embodiments include a geophysical sensor cable section having an internal volume within which geophysical sensors are disposed at spaced apart locations. A digitizer is disposed within the internal volume and is communicatively coupled to sensors. A telemetry unit within the internal volume is communicatively coupled to the digitizer. The telemetry unit may comprise multiple forward ports, multiple aft ports and a controller communicatively coupled to the forward ports, the aft ports, and the digitizer. The controller may be configured to: relay downstream-directed packets received on an active forward port through all aft ports; gather sensor data from the digitizer and send the sensor data as upstream-directed packets through the active forward port; and relay any upstream-directed packets received on aft ports through the active forward port.

Managing movement of data packets along a geophysical sensor cable

A method of manufacturing a streamer section. The method includes coupling together a plurality of prefabricated harness modules. A harness module includes a plurality of geophysical sensors disposed along a length of the harness module and a sensor node communicatively coupled to the plurality of sensors. A first connector is disposed at a first end of the harness module and a second connector disposed at a second end of the harness module. The first connector is coupled to the sensor node and is configured to couple to a second harness module and receive data from a sensor node in the second harness module. The second connector is coupled to the sensor node and is configured to couple to a third harness module and forward data to a sensor node in the third harness module.

Streamer manufacturing

Geophysical sensor cable. At least some of the example embodiments are methods including creating a geophysical sensor cable by: creating a first window through the insulation of a first electrical conductor; creating a second window through the insulation of a second electrical conductor; placing the first and second electrical conductors in a clip; twisting the first and second electrical conductors to create a twisted pair; electrically coupling a first lead of a seismic sensor to the first electrical conductor through a first window; electrically coupling a second lead of the seismic sensor to the second electrical conductor through a second window; encapsulating at least a portion of an internal volume of the clip; and placing the twisted pair and the seismic sensor within an outer jacket of a geophysical sensor cable.

Geophysical sensor cable methods and systems

Streamer section connector used as an electrode. A first streamer section includes a first outer surface that defines an interior volume, a first connector coupled to a first end of the first outer surface, and a first digitizer node. The digitizer node defines a first input port and second input port, the first digitizer node disposed within the interior volume of the first outer surface, and the first input port is electrically coupled to the first connector such that the portion of the first connector that is electrically conductive is a first electrode. The first digitizer node configured to measure a potential difference between the first electrode at a first potential and a second potential coupled to the second input port.

A harness plug and methods of use. Example devices include an arcuate portion and a lateral portion disposed at an outer periphery of the arcuate portion. The arcuate portion is configured to engage with arcuate portion of a hole within a spacer. A method of using the harness plug includes molding a harness plug about a portion of a cable bundle and inserting the cable bundle into an arcuate portion of a hole in the spacer through a lateral portion of the first hole. The harness plug is pressed into the arcuate portion of a hole in the spacer. A streamer spacer for use with the harness plug includes a hole having a portion having an arcuate shape and a second portion lateral to and abutting the arcuate portion and extending to a periphery of an elongate body of the streamer spacer.

Molded snap-in plug and device and method for using same

A system may include a message server. The system may include a telemetry unit in communication with the message server. The telemetry unit may be configured to discover an identification of an auxiliary device coupled thereto. The telemetry unit may be configured to report the identification to the message server. The telemetry unit may be configured to request the message server to send messages associated with the identification to the telemetry unit. The telemetry unit may be configured to forward the messages to the auxiliary device.

Auxiliary device communication

At least some of the exemplary embodiments are a method. The method includes obtaining, at an underwater imaging device, a stream of images of geophysical surveying equipment, wherein the geophysical surveying equipment includes a target pattern having a calibrated image size. The geophysical surveying equipment is tracked using the image stream and the target pattern. The method further includes capturing from the image stream, a single image of the images of the geophysical surveying equipment, wherein the single image comprises an image of the target pattern having an apparent size. Based on the calibrated image size and the apparent size, a distance between the underwater imaging device and the geophysical surveying equipment is determined.

System and method for underwater distance measurement

An apparatus. At least some illustrative embodiments are an apparatus comprising a sensor streamer. The sensor streamer includes at least one seismic streamer section and a first electrode adapter removably attached to the at least one seismic streamer section. The first electrode adapter includes a first electrode, wherein the first electrode is configured to couple to electrical circuitry configured to measure a potential difference between the first electrode at a first potential and a second potential. The conducting member forms a reference potential, wherein the conducting member is floating. The at least one seismic streamer section is without electromagnetic field-sensing components.

Electrode adapter for geophysical surveys

This disclosure is related to the field of streamers. In one embodiment, a streamer may include a group of particle motion sensors. In some embodiments, at least two of the particle motion sensors in the group are movable relative to one another within the streamer, and the two particle motion sensors are configured to measure motion along a particular axis. In some embodiments, the streamer may additionally include a plurality of pressure sensors.

Distributed multi-sensor streamer

A sensor streamer drag body system. At least some of the example embodiments include a system having a sensor streamer towable behind a vessel in a body of water, the sensor streamer defining a defining a distal end and a proximal end, the proximal end nearest the vessel. The system further includes a drag body coupled to the distal end of the sensor streamer, wherein the drag body remains submerged while the sensor streamer is deployed. The drag body includes an inertial navigation system. The inertial navigation system is configured to determine a position of the drag body, the drag body lacking an internal GPS.

At least some illustrative embodiments are methods including: in a streamer towed by a survey vessel, sensing a first interconnection of a daisy chain the first interconnection between a first networked unit and a second networked unit, wherein the first networked unit and the second networked unit comprise a portion of a plurality of networked units; and determining that a fault condition exists on the first interconnection in response to the sensing; disabling the first interconnection responsive to the fault condition; enabling a second interconnection responsive to the fault condition, wherein the second interconnection couples the first networked unit and a third networked unit of the plurality of networked units and wherein the second interconnection does not couple to the second networked unit; and reporting information indicative of the fault condition to the survey vessel via the second networked unit.
