Seamless display screens that are portable and can be installed in a fast manner, as well as a projection unit for use with several projectors as well as methods of making such display screens. The projection unit can be suitable for being used as a rear projection unit. Devices are provided for reducing depth of the projection unit, to compensate for blend zones and to make it easy to transport such as to be suitable for trade shows, e.g. mirrors or Fresnel lenses.

Seamless projection screen for fast installation

A curved back-projection screen having an angle of curvature greater than 180&#xb0; is described such as a wrap-around cylindrical or dome screen. The screen includes a first layer and a second synthetic resin diffusing layer on the first layer, the second synthetic resin diffusing layer containing a light absorbing material and light diffusing particles embedded in a resin material, with the second synthetic resin diffusing layer having a value of the product of the absorption coefficient and thickness of between 0.1 and 2. The second synthetic resin diffusing layer can be applied by spraying.

Curved back-projection screen

A method and a device for soft edge blending of projected display images () is provided. The method combines optical and electrical soft edge blending in an blending area () by using electrical blending in one fraction () of the blending area () of two or more overlapping images and using optical blending in another fraction () of the blending area (). The method according to the present invention overcomes problems with manufacturing, alignment and adjustment of optical masks () used in optical blending and the difficulties with electrically blending black images. The blending method can also be used in systems providing switching from soft edge blending to hard edge matching.

Optical and electrical blending of display images

A blending tool is described for blending sub-images of a multi-channel projection system comprising a plurality of projectors. The blending device typically has a number of adjustable optical blending means which each are adapted to be mounted on a projector of said multi-channel projection system. Using a removable controlling means allows automated controlling of at least one of the adjustable optical blending means, or a blending component thereof. The removable controlling means therefore has engaging means for temporary engaging the removable controlling means to the adjustable blending means. In a preferred version, the blending tool allows remote control of the adjustable blending means such that blending can be performed from the viewing side of the projection system, even for rear-projection systems. Furthermore a method for blending and projection systems adapted for being blended using the blending tool are provided.

Motorized blend alignment tool

The present invention relates to projection systems, more particularly to a method for visualising test pattern grids in such a projection system. An array of adjustable, directed light sources is described, which is to be used as a test pattern generator for alignment of at least one projector. Each light source is fixed onto a surface from which it is movable with two degrees of freedom, preferably by putting the surface in plastic deformation. This can preferably be done with help of few tooling aids, and by using one hand only.
