The invention is directed to a process for extracting materials from biological material, which process is characterized in that the naturally occurring biological material is treated with an extractant consisting of a deep eutectic solvent of natural origin or a an ionic liquid of natural origin to produce a biological extract of natural origin dissolved in the said solvent or ionic liquid.

Process for extracting materials from biological material

The invention is directed to a process for the preparation of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) by fermentation comprising fermenting a suitable starting compound to produce an aqueous solution of a salt of FDCA having a pH of at least 7, optionally removing solids from said solution, e.g. by filtration, subsequently freeze crystallizing the said salt of FDCA from said solution at said pH, isolating the said FDCA salt in the form of solid crystals, preparing an aqueous solution of said salt and crystallizing FDCA as the free acid from said solution at an acidic pH.

Process for the preparation of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid

The invention is directed to a process for the recovery or removal of one or more crystallizable compounds from an aqueous solution containing, apart from the said crystallizable compounds, one or more organic or inorganic scale-forming or scale-inducing materials having a lower solubility in water than the said crystallizable compounds, said process comprising subjecting the said solution to at least one eutectic freeze crystallization step with recovery of ice and said one or more crystallizable compounds in crystalline form, recycling at least part of the mother liquor formed in the said eutectic crystallization step and subjecting the said recycle to a treatment with seed crystals for said scale forming or scale inducing compounds, removing at least part of the solid material obtained in said treatment step and recycle of the aqueous liquid thus obtained to the eutectic freeze crystallization step or to the feed thereto.

Treatment of aqueous solutions

The invention is directed to a process for recovering a crystalline material from an aqueous solution, which solution also contains organic contaminants, in which process the material is crystallised from the aqueous solution by freeze crystallising at a eutectic freezing point of the solution.

Crystallisation of materials from aqueous solutions

The invention relates to a method for the preparation of lactic acid and calcium sulphate, in which (a) an aqueous solution that contains lactate is reacted with sulphuric acid at a temperature that is essentially higher than the transition temperature of calcium sulphate dihydrate (CaSO .2H O), with the formation of a mixture that contains calcium sulphate hemihydrate and lactic acid, (b) the mixture from step (a) is subjected to at least one recrystallisation step at a temperature that is essentially lower than the transition temperature of calcium sulphate dihydrate, with the formation of a precipitate of calcium sulphate dihydrate and an aqueous solution of lactic acid, and (c) the precipitate of calcium sulphate dihydrate is separated off from the aqueous solution of lactic acid.

A process is presented in which anhydrous soda is crystallized and worked up to produce anhydrous soda crystals with a bulk density from 1300 to 1600 kg/m . The process is characterized in that a solvent is used that allows the crystals to be formed and handled at atmospheric pressure in the presence of water without the monohydrate of soda being formed.
