A substantially light-insensitive monosheet thermographic recording material comprising a support and on one side of said support a thermosensitive element, wherein said thermographic recording material contains at least one compound represented by formula (I): wherein M is hydrogen, an alkali atom or an ammonium group; Ris an alkyl, alkenyl-, alkynyl-, thioalkyl-, thioalkenyl- or thioalkynyl-group in which the alkyl-, alkenyl- or alkynyl-group has 6 to 25 carbon atoms; X is &#x2014;O&#x2014;, &#x2014;S&#x2014; or &#x2014;N(R)&#x2014;; and Ris hydrogen, a &#x2014;(CH)SOM group or a group; and m is an integer between 1 and 5.

Surfactants for use in substantially light-insensitive thermographic recording materials

A thermal head printer for printing but not perforating a substantially light-insensitive thermographic material, the thermal printer comprising: a transport system having a transport direction, n thermal heads, where n is an integer, each of the thermal heads comprising an array of substantially rectangular energizable heating elements, the heating elements having a length Lin the transport direction and a pitch Pbetween adjacent heating elements, and a means for supplying electrical energy to each of the substantially rectangular energizable heating elements in at least one of the thermal heads, the transport system being capable of transporting the light-insensitive thermographic material in contact or proximity with at least one of the thermal heads, wherein at least one of the thermal heads comprises heating elements for which L/Pis between 0.25 and 0.88; a first process for printing a substantially light-insensitive thermographic material with the above-described thermal head printer; a second process for printing a substantially light-insensitive thermographic material at different printing speeds with a thermal head comprising heating elements without significant variation in image tone, wherein the length of the heating elements in the transport direction of the substantially light-insensitive thermographic material decreases with decreasing printing speed; and a third process for printing a substantially light-insensitive thermographic material at different printing speeds with a different thermal head at each printing speed without significant variation in image tone, wherein each of said different thermal heads comprises heating elements with a different length in the transport direction of the substantially light-insensitive thermographic material and the length of the heating elements in the transport direction of the substantially light-insensitive thermographic material decreases with decreasing printing speed.

A monosheet black and white substantially light-insensitive thermographic recording material comprising a thermosensitive element and a support, the thermosensitive element containing a substantially light-insensitive organic silver salt, a 1,2-dihydroxyphenyl-compound in thermal working relationship therewith and a binder, wherein said 1,2-dihydroxyphenyl-compound is represented by formula (I): R SO R , wherein R is an optionally substituted aryl group and R is selected from the group consisting of a 3,4,5-trihydroxyphenyl group, a 3-alkoxy-4,5-dihydroxyphenyl group and a 3-aryloxy-4,5-dihydroxyphenyl group; or said 1,2-dihydroxyphenyl-compound is represented by formula (II): R COOR , wherein R is a 3-alkoxy-4,5-dihydroxyphenyl group or a 3-aryloxy-4,5-dihydroxyphenyl group; and R is an alkyl group or an aryl group; and a thermographic recording process therefor.

Thermographic recording material with improved print archivability without loss in printability

A monosheet black and white substantially light-insensitive thermographic recording material comprising a thermosensitive element and a support, the thermosensitive element containing one or more substantially light-insensitive organic silver salts, one or more reducing agents consisting of one or more 1,2-dihydroxybenzene-compounds in thermal working relationship therewith and a binder, wherein the molar ratio of molar hydroxy-equivalents of the 1,2-dihydroxybenzene compounds to molar silver-equivalents of the substantially light-insensitive organic silver salts is between 1.2 and 6.0; the 1,2-dihydroxybenzene-compounds have a &mdash;(CH&boxH;CH) R group in the 4 position wherein n is zero or an integer and R is a substituent with a Hammett &sgr; constant >0.35 and <0.95 exclusive of a carboxy-group; and the benzene ring of the 1,2-dihydroxy-compounds is optionally further substituted with an entity selected from the group consisting of an alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, heteroaryl, alkoxy, thioalkyl, aryloxy, thioaryl, thioheteroaryl, acyloxy, thioacyl, amido, sulphonamido and halogen groups, an annelated aryl ring system and an annelated heteroaryl ring system; and a thermographic recording process therefor.
