At least one job path of a plurality of jobs of a workload may be traversed, each job of the plurality of jobs including job preparation operations and job logic operations, and having a job start condition. At least one job in the at least one job path may be selected to be an accelerated job, to thereby accelerate completion of the workload. The accelerated job may be scheduled to begin at a job preparation start time that is earlier than the job start time by at least a job preparation time used to complete accelerated job preparation operations of the accelerated job. Prior to the job start time, a wait command may be received from the accelerated job upon completion of the accelerated job preparation operations. The accelerated job may be released from the wait command to execute job logic operations of the accelerated job in response to the job start condition.

Job acceleration for workload management

A method for determining a misconfiguration of components in an Information Technology (IT) infrastructure includes decomposing one or more components into sub parts, creating one or more synthetic objects, each synthetic object being associated with a sub part of a respective component, and including the components and the synthetic objects in a model of the IT infrastructure. The method further determines a relationship between a first component and a first synthetic object based on attributes of the first component and attributes of the first synthetic object, includes the determined relationship in the model of the IT infrastructure, and loads a graph of the IT infrastructure in a graph database with the first component and the synthetic object as nodes and the determined relationship as an edge in the graph. The method further determines the misconfiguration of components in the IT infrastructure by identifying components having improper relationships in the graph.

Synthetic objects in service models

A list folding process dynamically groups items of a list into logically related visual folds to reduce the number of items to be displayed in a window of a computer screen. The process determines attributes of the items to be displayed and dynamically groups items together into a special group called a visual fold based on the attributes. The rules for folding items based on attributes can be defined by a particular user so that each view of the items may be different among users. As the attributes of each item change, the display of the items and visual folds may be automatically adjusted to reflect the current proper grouping. The folding process therefore allows a user to view the maximum amount of information in available display area of a computer screen window.

Dynamic folding of listed items for display

A technique for allowing collapse or expansion of a multi-node subgraph of a directed acyclic graph is disclosed. The subgraph may be collapsed or expanded with a single user interaction, retaining the important service context information and relations, while minimizing information of lesser importance in the service model.

Smart impact views

Systems, methods and computer readable media for centrally managed impersonation are described. Examples include a system having a central server and a remote shell daemon running on a remote machine, wherein a trust relationship is established between the central server and the remote shell daemon. Examples also include a method wherein a user sends the management system a request to act upon a remote machine. The management system determines whether the user is authenticated for the requested action. Upon authentication, the management system identifies an impersonation policy based on user profile and the remote machine. The management system connects to the remote machine, impersonates an elevated privilege account if required, and executes the user action on the remote machine.

Centrally managed impersonation

A resource monitoring method may include determining, at a first monitoring node, a load level for each monitoring node of a plurality of monitoring nodes including the first monitoring node and a second monitoring node based on a namespace associated with the first monitoring node. The namespace may include an overlay namespace and a local namespace. The local namespace may identify objects being monitored by the first monitoring node. The overlay namespace may include local viewpoints for other monitoring nodes of the plurality of monitoring nodes including the second monitoring node. Each local viewpoint may identify one or more objects that are monitored by a respective other monitoring node. The method may further include prohibiting the first monitoring node from instituting a new object creation request if the load level of the second monitoring node is lower than the load level of the first monitoring node.

System and method for stateless, fault tolerance and load balanced data collection using overlay namespaces

A resource monitoring method may include receiving a request to perform a read operation on an object at a first monitoring node of a plurality of monitoring nodes, and determining whether or not a copy of the object is present in a namespace associated with the first monitoring node. The namespace may include an overlay namespace and a local namespace. The local namespace may identify objects being monitored by the first monitoring node. The overlay namespace may include local viewpoints for other monitoring nodes of the plurality of monitoring nodes. Each local viewpoint may identify one or more objects that are monitored by a respective other monitoring node. The method may further include performing, by the first monitoring node, the read operation on the object if the copy of the object is determined as present in the namespace associated with the first monitoring node.

Systems, methods and computer readable media that provide stateless fault tolerance and load balanced data collection using overlay namespaces are described. A cluster is used. Each node of the cluster may be a monitoring system. A data provider process may run on each node in the cluster. Each node has an overlay namespace which comprises one or more links to namespaces on other nodes, and local viewpoints of those linked namespaces. When a node detects a resource waiting to be monitored, it queries other nodes to determine whether object creation for that resource is allowed. It creates an object only if no other node is creating or has created an object for that resource.

A method, system and medium for efficiently propagating service impact data in a directed acyclic graph. One or more service components, impact rules and business rules will be grouped together into a directed acyclic graph and a related metadata array. Impact propagation uses related metadata array to minimize traversal of the graph. As nodes of the graph are updated to propagate impact data a determination is made as to when no further impact propagation is required and calculations are terminated without having to traverse the entire graph. This method will allow a system or business administrator to maintain real-time notification and visualization of, the impacted state of all objects in the graph.

Impact propagation in a directed acyclic graph

A method, system, and medium for compressing systems management information in a historical data store. Dynamically determining the appropriate compression algorithm to apply based on the type of data being compressed and stored. As further input is received for any particular measurement, the appropriate compression algorithm will be automatically selected from the set of available compression algorithms or be defined by a user configuration parameter. The amount of historical data stored with the minimal amount of data loss is optimized by the system dynamically changing the compression algorithm used for the given input data over a particular time span. The system engineer is therefore presented with the pertinent information for monitoring, administrating and diagnosing system activities.

Dynamic compression of systems management data

A method, system and medium for recording events in a system management environment is described. As system events are detected in an enterprise computing environment they are stored in a manner allowing them to be 'replayed' either forward or reverse to assist a system administrator or other user to determine the chain of events that affected the enterprise. The system engineer and business process owner are therefore presented with pertinent information for monitoring, administrating and diagnosing system activities and their correlation to business services.

Restricted views ensure that available service impact data is only displayed to end users having the proper authorization to view the underlying impact model data.
