A method for a system including a plurality of encoders each for receiving a first signal and encoding to generate a respective second signal for sending to a respective subscriber, comprising receiving, in each encoder, the first signal from a first source, while testing a signal path between a second source and the encoders, the first source on a first assembly, the second source on a second assembly, and each encoder on a respective third assembly, while each encoder is receiving the first signal from the first source, receiving, in each encoder, a third signal from the second source, generating, from each encoder, a fourth signal based on the third signal, the fourth signal being a redundancy signal and receiving and examining the fourth signal at the second source and subsequently receiving the first signal from the second source.

Communication system having enhanced reliability

An access control method to control access to a communication channel of a plurality of units coupled to it, each unit having a first and a second own priority assigned to it, includes a first step of comparing and withdrawing units, based on the first own priorities of said units, and for these units that have not withdrawn after the first step, this first step is repeated but using the second own priorities of these remaining units. A method to control access to a communication channel interconnecting a multitude of pluralities of units coupled to it, includes the mentioned steps for a single plurality for at least one plurality amongst said multitude.

Priority-based access control arrangement by assigning first and second

A current control interface arrangement includes a card circuit and a connector means. The connector means is adapted to generate, from the supply voltage terminals, an enable signal which is directly correlated to the moment of insertion or extraction of the load from the power supply. The card circuit includes an active device to be coupled between a power supply terminal and a load, an enable controlled switch for delivering the correct voltage to the control terminal of the active device for turning on, respectively turning off this device and a time constant means for controlling the rate at which the active device is further rendered conductive. A very simple power supply sequencing apparatus including the current control interface arrangement allows for coupling a plurality of supply voltages to a card in descending order starting from the highest supply voltage to the lowest supply voltage.

Current control interface arrangement

The method is used in a system comprising a central station (CS) coupled to each of a plurality of terminal stations (TS1-TSn), wherein the central station (CS) is enabled to transmit downstream frames (DS) to the terminal stations to allow the terminal stations to transfer upstream frames (US) to the central station in time slots assigned thereto by way of of access grant information (TEA1-TEA4) included in the downstream frames. The downstream frame (DS) is a superframe having a matrix structure with rows and columns, and a first portion and a second portion of the matrix structure is an overhead portion (S, TCB) and an information portion (ATM) respectively. The overhead portion includes the access grant information and the size of the overhead portion is flexibly adaptable. The central station and the terminal stations are adapted to send and to interpret the superframe.
