The present invention relates to the technical field of security documents comprising a security feature, such as a windowed security thread, a security foil, a security patch, a hologram or an ink printed security feature, and a protective coating, and methods of manufacturing of said security documents. The security feature has a security feature thickness tof at least about 5 &#x3bc;m (micrometers) and a security feature surface facing away from the substrate consisting of a first region adjacent to the edges of the security feature and a second region non-adjacent to the edges of the security feature. The protective coating covers the security feature surface facing away from the substrate, a first substrate surface adjacent to the edges of the security feature, and a second substrate surface, which is different from the substrate surface covered by the security feature and the first substrate surface. The protective coating covering the security feature surface facing away from the substrate and the first substrate surface is transparent, the protective coating covering the first region has a thickness t, the protective coating covering the second region has a thickness t, the protective coating covering the first substrate surface has a thickness t, and the protective coating covering the second substrate surface has a thickness t. The thickness tis larger than the thickness t, which is larger than the thickness t; the thickness tis larger than the thickness t; and either the thickness tis larger than the thickness t, which is larger than or equal to the thickness t; or the thickness tis equal to the thickness t, which is larger than the thickness t. The variable protective coating thickness on the surface of the security document provides the inventive security document with an increased resistance against physical and chemical attacks from the environment, while maintaining the mechanical resistance properties required for such security documents.

Security document and manufacturing method thereof

The present invention relates to the field of the protection of value documents and value commercial goods against counterfeit and illegal reproduction. In particular, the present invention relates to security threads or stripes to be incorporated into or onto security documents. The security threads or stripes comprise i) an optically variable layer; ii) a magnetic code; and iii) a non-metallized substrate, wherein the magnetic code has a color matching the color impression of the optically variable layer at one viewing angle and wherein the optically variable layer and the magnetic code are jointly visible from one side of the security thread or stripe.

Optically variable magnetic security threads and stripes

Optically variable security threads or stripes to be incorporated into or onto security documents, relate to the field of the protection of value documents and value commercial goods against counterfeit and illegal reproduction. The security threads or stripes comprise a) an optically variable layer; b) a color constant layer having a color matching the color impression of the optically variable layer at a viewing angle; c) a holographic metallic layer; and d) and a transparent substrate, wherein the optically variable layer, the color constant layer and the holographic metallic layer are at least partially jointly visible from at least one side of the security thread or stripe.

Optically variable security threads and stripes

The present invention relates to the field of the protection of value documents and value commercial goods against counterfeit and illegal reproduction. In particular, the present invention relates to security threads or stripes comprising a holographic metallic layer; a first transparent substrate; a second transparent substrate; a first hardened coating and a second hardened coating, wherein a first plurality of non-spherical magnetic or magnetizable pigment particles of the first hardened coating are oriented so as to follow a convex curvature and wherein the second plurality of non-spherical magnetic or magnetizable pigment particles of the second hardened coating are oriented so as to follow a concave curvature so as to form a plural rolling bar effect.

Security threads and stripes

In the field of protection of value documents and value commercial goods, the present disclosure relates to the field of security threads or stripes to be incorporated into or onto security documents, and security documents having security threads or stripes. The security threads or stripes include i) first optically variable layer imparting a first different color impression at different viewing angles, ii) second optically variable layer imparting a second different color impression at different viewing angles, iii) first color constant layer having a color matching color impression of the first or second optically variable layer at a first viewing angle, iv) second color constant layer having a color matching color impression of the first or second optically variable layer at a second viewing angle, and v) a substrate. The layers are jointly visible from one side of the security thread or stripe.

Security threads or stripes include a substrate and i) a first optically variable layer imparting a first different color impression at different viewing angles, ii) a second optically variable layer imparting a second different color impression at different viewing angles, iii) a first color constant layer having a color matching the color impression of the first or second optically variable layer at a first viewing angle, iv) a second color constant layer having a color matching the color impression of the first or second optically variable layer at a second viewing angle, and v) one or more material-free regions, wherein the first optically variable layer, the second optically variable layer, the first color constant layer, the second color constant layer and the one or more material-free regions are jointly visible from one side of the security thread or stripe.

The present invention concerns a security thread or stripe for the incorporation into or onto a value-document or currency substrate, as well as a method and means of making such thread or stripe. The thread or stripe comprises a plastic foil which carries a hardened coating comprising oriented magnetic or magnetizable pigment particles, the orientation of said pigment particles representing graphic information. Preferred are optically variable magnetic or magnetizable pigment particles. Said hardened coating may also be comprised between a first and a second plastic foil. Said graphic information is a repetitive seamless pattern of suitable repetition length, which is produced using a magnetic orienting cylinder having a corresponding repetitive seamless magnetic field pattern. A magnetic orienting cylinder and a process for process for producing such magnetic orienting cylinder are also disclosed. The process comprises the coating of a cylindrical support body with a polymer material comprising a high-coercivity permanent-magnetic powder as a filler material, and magnetizing or engraving the seamless outer cylinder surface to form on the cylinder a repetitive seamless magnetic field pattern.
