In order to achieve as uniform a distribution of pressure as possible during the application to the brain of a brain spatula with a band-like strip consisting of a pliable and inherently stable material it is suggested that the strip be enveloped by a soft, elastically deformable material which projects laterally beyond the strip at the side edges of the strip and the deformability of which increases from the side edges of the strip towards the edge of the soft material.

In order to make it possible, in a surgical instrument comprising a tubular shaft with two tools pivotable towards one another at its distal end, these tools being pivotable relative to one another by means of a grip section at the proximal end of the tubular shaft via a transfer member arranged in the tubular shaft, to use the tools in a region arranged laterally of the instrument even with a simple construction it is suggested that the pivot axis of the tools extend concentrically to the longitudinal axis of the tubular shaft, that one tool be securely connected to the tubular shaft and the other securely connected to the transfer member, that the transfer member be a core mounted in the tubular shaft for rotation about its longitudinal axis, and that the grip section comprise two grip elements pivotable towards one another, one of these elements being connected to the tubular shaft and the other to the transfer member.

Surgical instrument

To facilitate the production of a surgical vascular clip having two arms with clamping jaws, the arms being resiliently pressable against each other and meeting at an end section of the clip, and also having a tensioning section adjoining the end section in the direction towards the clamping jaws and being surrounded by a ring displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the tensioning section, it is proposed that the arms with the clamping jaws, the tensioning section and the end section be designed as a one-piece component.

To enable easier manufacturability of the clamping ring for a surgical clip comprising two arms which are elastically pivotable towards each other and each have one clamping jaw, an end section in which the arms meet, and located therebetween a tensioning section on which the clamping ring surrounding the arms is displaceable in the longitudinal direction, with a part connected to the clamping ring engaging between the arms, it is proposed that the clamping ring carry diametrically opposed projections integrally formed on the clamping ring and protruding inwardly into the area surrounded by the clamping ring.

Clamping ring for a surgical clip

A drilling jig for surgical drilling tools is disclosed. The drilling jig comprises two sleeves of identical design mounted alongside each other on a common holder, with each sleeve being mounted on the holder so as to be pivotable in relation to each other about an axis of rotation extending perpendicular to their respective longitudinal axes. Each sleeve is hollow to allow a drilling tool to pass through. At the rear end of each sleeve is a stop surface for the drilling tool to rest against, the stop surface delimiting the depth to which the drilling tool penetrates the sleeve. Each sleeve is of two-part design and includes a bearing part and an adjusting part, with the bearing part carrying the front end of the sleeve and the adjusting part carrying the stop surface. The bearing part and the adjusting part are threaded to each other in such a manner that the spacing between the stop surface and the front end of the sleeve is adjustable by turning the adjusting part in relation to the bearing part, which enables alteration of the effective length of the sleeve without removing the drilling tool.

In order to make the covered tissue areas visible in an X-ray picture when using a surgical instrument for the retention of tissue which has at least one valve held on one side, also when using a material impermeable to X-rays, it is suggested that the contact surface of the valves have openings in a distribution which leaves an increasing, non-perforated cross-sectional area from the free end of the contact surface up to its holder.
