A system for simulating surgery includes an electromagnetic tracking system comprising an emitter and a plurality of electromagnetic sensors and a plurality of model bone fragments, each of the model bone fragments operatively connected to one of the plurality of electromagnetic sensors. A method for simulating surgery includes electromagnetically tracking position of a plurality of model bone fragments and a model bone shaft using an electromagnetic tracking system and displaying virtual fluoroscopic images based on sensed position of the model bone fragments and the model bone shaft.

Fracture reduction simulator

An orthopaedic surgical simulator includes a bone (a simulated bone or cadaver bone). The simulator further includes a base, wherein the bone is operatively connected to the base, an optical system mounted proximate the base, wherein the optical system comprises at least one camera and provides a first view and a second view of an incision area associated with the bone. There are fiducial markers on a surgical wire to represent depth of the surgical wire when a tip of the surgical wire is not visible. The simulator further includes a computing device in operative communication with the camera and configured to track position of a surgical wire by determining position of the surgical wire using the fiducial markers on the surgical wire and to generate imagery based on a three-dimensional model of the bone and position of the surgical wire relative to the bone.

Precise, low-cost orthopaedic surgical simulator

A breast examination training system is used to train physicians and other medical personnel on techniques for clinical breast examinations. The system includes a model having an outer shape comparable to a human breast. Inflatable nodules are embedded at various locations and depths in the model. The nodules are adapted to inflate to simulate tumors and are relatively undetectable by touch when deflated. A valve network fluidly couples the nodules to a pump that inflates the nodules, and a processor is operatively coupled to the valves to actuate the valves to selectively inflate the nodules.
