A method is provided for verifying and/or updating map geometry based on a probe data. A method may include: receiving probe data from a plurality of probes within a region, where the probe data includes at least one of heading information and location information for each probe data point; matching the probe data to a link segment to generate map-matched probe data; calculating a difference between the at least one of heading information and location information of the map-matched probe data points and of the link segment; determining a statistical mean of the data; determining an error of the statistical mean of the data; and flagging the link segment for manual review in response to the statistical mean being greater than the error of the statistical mean multiplied by a biasing factor.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product for verifying and/or updating road map geometry based on received probe data

Methods for providing a highly assisted driving (HAD) service include: (a) transmitting telematics sensor data from a vehicle to a remote first server; (b) transmitting at least a portion of the telematics sensor data from the remote first server to a remote second server, wherein the remote second server is configured to execute a HAD application using received telematics sensor data, and wherein the HAD application is configured to output a HAD service result; and (c) transmitting the HAD service result from the remote second server to a client. Highly assisted driving platform

A road furniture item or another type of road object is detected by at least one sensor. An associated geographic position associated with the road furniture item or road object is determined. After a predetermined time is reached, the geographic position is compared to a local database. A remote database is updated after the predetermined time is reached and according to the comparison with the local database. In some examples, the data indicative of the road furniture item or the road object is deleted based on a confidence level in the local database.

An approach is provided for separating past speed data into speed profiles corresponding to multi-modal segments of a travel network. A navigation processing platform determines one or more links of at least one travel network that includes at least one split into two or more links. The navigation processing platform processes and/or facilitates a processing of probe data associated with the one or more links to determine that the one or more links exhibit a multi-modality with respect to travel speed. The navigation processing platform then determines a plurality of speed profiles for one or more segments of the one or more links based, at least in part, on the multi-modality. The navigation processing platform further causes, at least in part, a generation of at least one travel speed map that associates the plurality of speed profiles with the one or more segments of the one or more links.

Method and apparatus for autonomous navigation speed at intersections

An approach is provided for road curvature data. The approach, for example, involves segmenting a road segment or plurality of road segments into a plurality of slices. The approach also involves retrieving location trace data for the plurality of slice. The location trace data, for instance, is collected from one or more location sensors of a plurality of vehicles traversing the plurality of slices. The approach further involves computing respective curvatures for the plurality of slices based on the location trace data. The adjusted probe probability value is used to estimate traffic volume. The geographic database is augmented with the estimated traffic volume.

Apparatus and methods are described for updating a geographic database based on road object probabilities. For example, an initial value set for an existence probability that a road object exists is determined. Observation data collected from sensors of vehicles are received. A total quantity of the observation data include a first quantity of vehicles that observed a presence of the road object and a second quantity of the vehicles observed an absence of the road object. A presence probability indicative of a likelihood that observation data accurately describe the road object and an absence probability indicative of a likelihood that observation data accurately describe the road object are calculated to determine an updated value for the existence probability. A geographic database is updated in response to the comparison of the updated value for the existence probability to a threshold confidence level.

Determining speed information

Systems, methods, and apparatuses are provided for determining an optimal warning distance for a vehicle. For example, the geographic location of the vehicle is received along with a reaction profile of the operator of the vehicle. Based on the geographic location, a roadway condition is determined. An optimal warning distance is then determined based on a braking distance of the vehicle and the reaction profile of the operator of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, or a navigation system of the vehicle itself, is alerted to the roadway condition when the vehicle is located at the optimal warning distance.
